“A good choice for a reasonable priced stay to explore Brighton”
Reviewed January 14, 2013 via mobile

All the positives on Tripadvisor are correct for this hotel ! It's right on the seafront and if you have a seaview room the beautiful lit up Victorian bandstand is right in front of you at night ! The staff is very friendly, the hotel warm and cosy with a nice bar downstairs, the breakfast good and even includes a glass of sparkling wine with your smoked salmon or other choice!
Yes .. The hotel is I an older building so don't expect much from the bathroom but we used their winter warmer offer and then upgraded to a king size room which was very spacious with a sofa and table in front of the bay window to enjoy the views! Once you are their and got a car parking space they keep it for you - right outside. All in all a good choice and within walking distance of Brighton and Hove.

We stayed here for two nights with friends. We had two sea view rooms. Our friends (A couple) had a room on the fourth floor, and were a little jealous of our room on the third floor. The gentleman on reception offered them the swap, which they took and moved to the second floor for an identical room.

The rooms were of a good size, ours had a sofa by the bay window and theirs had a table and chairs - ideal for watching the sea, the runners, and the bootcampers being put through their paces on the promenade. Their original room on the fourth floor was smaller and didn't have a bay window. The rooms were very clean.

We thought we had booked breakfast, but we hadn't. This wasn't a problem, and it was added to our tab for a very reasonable price. Breakfast itself had the usual cereals, juices etc, and you can choose a traditional cooked, scrambled eggs with salmon or haddock with poached egg. The service was friendly and helpful, and the food was good.

Bar prices were also reasonable, and again you can sit in the window and watch the world go by.

Location wise, this hotel is not central (from the Brighton Centre it is just beyond the West Pier)- but anyone who knows Brighton (and Hove) will know that it is a very manageable city, you are never too far away. We walked to the Marina, North Laine and The Lanes. Whilst you could take a cab (Cabs are on 01273 205205), if the weather is on your side- walk it as you'll get more of the Brighton feel. I would say it takes around 10-15 minutes to walk to the Brighton Centre.

Our one grumble would be that the milk in the rooms isn't well supplied, but the staff are more than happy to give some more if you ask.

I have stayed at this hotel before (around six years ago) and from memory think that this stay was better. The general consensus of our group was that we enjoyed our stay, and would stay here again.

stayed at this hotel a while back.brilliant reception from the staff.lovely reception room and bar.the room was spacious and comfortable.breakfast was served by waiters which made us feel special and relaxed.getting to the room was a bit strange ....up and down stairs but that took nothing away from this hotel.i would stay there again.

Room Tip: rooms down the side overlooking the square are quieter.

Thank you for your review and it is pleasing to read that you enjoyed your stay and will return to the hotel in the future. Unfortunaely the building is a converted from Edwardian Town Houses and cannot have straight corridors. I like to think part of the charecter.

Once again thanks for the review and I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

We recently stayed here, 1st January - 4th January 2013, and can't recommend the hotel highly enough. When we arrived to check in, the Receptionist advised us that we had been upgraded to the best room in the hotel - room 111. The room had a four poster bed, was spacious and had views to the seafront. The hotel was well located and room we stayed in was quiet. The only real downside was that the wifi was quite unpredicable and was hard to connect to. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout the stay. I think we got excellent value paying £135 for two people, for three nights. I wouldn't hesitate to book again next time I visit Brighton.

Room Tip: When booking direct through Best Western website, request a room not on the ground floor.

however they've made the most of it. All the staff I encountered were all very polite and friendly which as a single traveler makes you feel a little more at home. Check in was all ok, and the services and free wifi explained (although the wifi did tend to suddenly stop from time to time). You have to appreciate this is an old building, and your not paying the prices of the The Grand which is a few buildings along. That said the room was tastefully decorated with a wallpaper feature wall, and although a single, the bed was more like a small double. In a building like this, there is always going to be a challenge I'd imaging of how far you can go with the upkeep before major surgery is needed but I fear in a few years the layers of paint over the top of each other isn't going to do it any favors. The painted bathroom tiles already gave their age away. The cleaning was spotless I must add, and the heating worked well despite the huge tall ceiling. My room rate included breakfast which had plenty of choice from the printed menu including fish and vegetarian. The breakfast buffet wasn't explained on my first morning, a little bit of a language barrier from the waitress and probably my tiredness being New Years Day. Second morning a highly efficient young chap made sure everything was on track. The reception and bar area was done out nicely with a baby grand piano and contemporary bar although I didn't see it manned, as it looked like the receptionist switched rolls as and when. Park appears limited but I chose to travel by train, taking in to account city parking charges it was cheaper to do so and was a 20 odd minutes on foot dragging a suitcase. Good location, nice walk along the front to the main pier, theatres, gay village, Palace, and shopping. I'd probably stay here again as the staff easily made up for the odd bits of flaking paint.

Thank you for your review and I was please to hear that you found the staff friendly and polite. We try and schedule major maintenance and revnovation projects annually and we are hoping to include bathrooms this year. The breakfast being served was a concious decision to offering more than just a buffet. Although parking is limited outside the hotel there is other options which are explained at reception and on our website.

I was pleased that you said you would retrun and we look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

Stayed one Thursday night in early December.Booked with Last Minute .com Room and breakfast for 2 £45. Great value. The breakfast was great, superb choice,English, smoked salmon around 10 different choices.I had a stack of pancakes filled with yoghurt and fruit.delicious.We had a room on the side, still see the sea and you avoid the traffic noise on the front. Room a bit on the small side, but its an old hotel. With the howling wind and rain outside it was warm and comfortable. Staff pleasant and friendly . About 15 mins walk to the centre of Brighton, 5 mins walk to Hove High St where there are plenty of good restaurants and bars.

Room Tip: I think we were in room 222.Parking is always a problem in Brighton and there is limited parking on...
