“Excellent break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2012

Quick and friendly check in. Superior room comfy with very nice bathroom, free standing bath and roomy shower room.
Breakfast very good, sure you wait awhile but it is cooked fresh.
Comfy bar area, drinks not too bad, large house wine and G&T £9.
Excellent location, straight out and you are on the seafront or 5mins walk from lanes and shops etc.
All in all good two day break would return

Really enjoyed this hotel. Quirky, exclusive, but really friedly staff. Room was lovely (see below)
Breakfast AMAZING, almost too much choice.Eggs Benedict wiyh smoked salmom were fantastic. Restaurant excellent at night. Oysters and chateaubriand were lovely. Have your coffe in the comfy seats in the bar (and bring your dog down for a treat with you!!!!)

Room Tip: Gosset Room has twin baths side by side in the front window, from where you can see the sea. (There...

Right in the centre of Brighton, located in a quiet side street, this HdV hotel has all the usual brand comforts and reliable standards and on one of its Sunday promotions represents excellent value. It also takes dogs, so across the road to the beach with you, knowing that restorative breakfast is only moments away.....

Many will be impressed by the quaintness of this place, which is fine if that sort of thing impresses you. There are indeed some fine features, which means it has the potential to be a top venue. Unfortunately, a number of negative features let it down, and we are left with a missed opportunity.

A comfy bed and pillows, spacious bathroom, good quality towels and robes all leave positive impressions. However, a non-existent air conditioning makes for a poor night's sleep. Yes, this place is kept so hot that you need air conditioning even in November!! Or you can open the french doors and risk intruders entering the room and / or be kept awake by seagulls.

Breakfast is good, but takes a while to order the cooked option. The server seemed flustered with only 7 people in the restaurant - I wonder how this works when it's busy. Otherwise the staff seemed friendly and accommodating.

Parking is definitely not convenient (or inexpensive), even with the hotel discount that they can offer if you park at Russell Road NCP car park (it's still £18.75 per 24 hours instead of the standard £25).

Good price for a last minute 2-night stay (better to phone than book through their website). See room comments though. Food in bistro was great, better than expected (breakfasts and a dinner). Coffee at breakfast very disappointing - weak.

Room Tip: Rectory is right above the Pub du Vin and music seeps through. On a Sunday/Monday out of main season...

Look for the special offers, I stayed over on a Sunday ,Monday deal, so the room cost 10£ if 99£ was spent in the bistro(food only) for 2 people.
There was happy hour with 2 for one on selected wines and cocktails.
The only problems were the beds were extremely hard, and I like a firm mattress, and they have a bed frame that juts out rather so it is easy to knock yourself in the dark, also the check in staff were not as efficient as we would have hoped.
The hotel has an old world atmosphere and was a joy to be in.i liked the nespresso coffee machine in the room.

If offered the room called Quinta don't take it!!! This bedroom should not ever be offered for rental. It is right on the roadside and 'smokers corner' is outside the bedroom window. Very noisy. When we stayed the heating wasn't working and neither was the television.

The upside is the staff and management did their best to rectify heating and tv but couldn't move us as they were fully booked but did discount our bill. The food, bar and service are wonderful and if they get rid if this room I'm sure it would be perfect.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel du Vin Brighton is situated in the Lanes conservation area, a pebbles' throw from the seafront. Its 49 bedrooms are housed in a collection of eccentric Gothic revival and mock Tudor buildings erected, appropriately by a wine merchant on the site of an old inn. Among many interesting features are a heavily carved staircase and bizarre gargoyles, while the original double-height hall now houses the wine bar and Laroche tasting room. The perfect venue for a picturesque wedding or party is the impressively large and airy Dome room. For the best tankered of local ale, Pub du Vin is one of Brighton city center's treasures with its classic pub dining. Out with the Brighton hotel is the wonder and inspiring town itself, with quaint streets dotted with fabulous shops, and of course the famous pier and promenade. ... more   less
