Popped in with friends on the way to the flea markets in St George's street. The decor was tasteful and the atmosphere was relaxed. We were well received with our orders taken quickly and our drinks brought over promptly. Our food was well presented and made from quality products. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will definitely be returning!

I have just spent a weekend in Brighton, and was enticed into Cornels by the look and design of it. We enjoyed a delicious and relaxed saturday lunch, hearty food and excellent coffee. We booked for sunday lunch with friends the following day, we had enjoyed our experience there. Cornels exceeded expectations, the Sunday roasts were perfect. Meat was cooked to a turn, (we had beef and chicken at our table) the roast potatoes were crispy, fresh vegetables cooked perfectly including delicious red cabbage to add to the flavours. The portions were very generous and we had a decent bottle of wine. So the service wasn't that snappy, but who cares for a lazy sunday lunch by the sea? This is not a place serving quick turnaround business lunched, it has a relaxed vibe, and is a perfect venue for brunch/coffee and lunch. I can't comment on dinner as we didn't eat there in the evening, but would happily return for dinner. The owner was present and welcoming, and the staff accommodating. Don't believe the bad reviews, try it.

Have walked past this place several times but never had an opportunity to try it. We were in the neighbourhood this morning and popped in for some breakfast.

Truly terrible food. Bland coffee was just the start of our issues (admittedly we are spoilt for good coffee places in Brighton, but still - even more reason to raise your game). We ordered a bacon sandwich and eggs Benedict. Bacon sandwich should be renamed bread sandwich - three slices of greasy bread garnished with salad and sickly balsamic reduction. No thanks. Eggs Benedict was even worse. Cold, more extraneous salad and hollandaise plainly dispensed from a squeezy tube. Yuck.

The stagf weren't particularly friendly, decor was a bit naff and loud irritating chart music making conversation almost impossible. It's also not that cheap in my opinion.

Please don't waste your money here, unless you aren't particularly interested in food and have an urge to listen to whiny overbearing music.

We went to Ground up the road afterwards to get a proper coffee.

Looking for somewhere serving decent food at a reasonable price on my first visit to Brighton, I came across this place which looked nice enough from the outside, but came away feeling very disappointed and in fact quite angry. I had the £9.95 two courses lunch menu which consisted of garlic mushrooms on toast to start- more of a main course sized portion and actually the best part of the meal- followed by cod and chips. It was dreadful. Soggy and tasteless fish, and equally uninspiring chips, peas and sickly tartare sauce. My friend had the Lentil soup, although by the look of it it should have been Lentil gloop, did not look pretty... She said the taste was okay, nothing special but once she had almost finished she found what was without doubt a small strip of plastic at the bottom of the bowl. We called the manager over who then took the bowl back to the kitchen to "ask Chef". "Chef" declared that said plastic was actually a lentil. It clearly wasn't but as the bowl had since been taken away we couldn't prove our point... Service was slow and brusque throughout and eventually once the bill came we tried to complain about the 'plastic incident' mainly but after we had been accused of lying about it then it turned into a complaint about everything. The manager was incredibly rude and there's absolutely no way we should have been spoken to how we were. Do not come here, unless of course you like bad service, rude staff and uninspiring food!!! The best bit about the place was the day's rugby on the TV in the corner. VERY disappointing!

Really wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt but after my third visit I give up. The service is just so appalling, an hour and a half for a simple sanwhich? Forget it!
