“Not worth wasting an evening meal on!”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

After having little luck in finding a resturant with tables we thought it was a bonus to get a table here. The experience started off badly with having to wait about 20 minutes to order drinks and maybe this was a warning sign that we shoud have left!

As we had waited so long to order drinks we had decided on our food so ordered that at the same time. The starters alone took another 30 minutes to turn up and it's not like we had ordered anything overly adventurous! Now, don't get me wrong when the food turned up it tasted very nice but there are certainly better Thais in Brighton!

Yet again we had to wait for them to clear our table and another horribly long wait to get our mains...I was starting to get very frustrated at this point and none of the waiting staff appeared to take interest in the fact we had no drinks and had to grab someone as they walked past to order a second round! Our mains eventually turned up and was still very nice but nothing special.

After we had finished we asked for the bill when they cleared the table as we knew there would be no hope otherwise! However, after about 15 minutes the bill still hasn't turned up so we had to ask again. Once receiving the bill we were told the card machines upstairs weren't working even though 5 minutes previous other tables had also payed by card! Fed up with the whole experience we went downstairs to ask someone to pay and when asked how it was we explained that the service was totally horrible! With this she looked at the bill and said sorry and that she would take off the service charge as if she was doing us a favour.... I'm sorry but I was not planning on paying that anyway! I had work the total out without the service charge before we payed yet she still managed to come up with a different amount!? She then explained it was hard to employ thai waitresses! There were 3 in our area (plenty really) but none of them had a clue and were all over the place!

Overall, this meal took over 2 hours and most of our evening....not what we had planned and I certainly will not be returning which is sad and very extreme for myself as I'm not that easily put off!

If you are prepared to wait then go ahead but this is not a quick meal! So be warned!

“Cheap, good food.”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

The restaurant is just off the beaten path and the menu has all the typical dishes you would find in a Thai restaurant. The price is very, very reasonable, but unfortunately the portions are small. Order two entrees if you have an appetite!

“Spot on!”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Brightonians know the D Group restaurants (Pinocchio - currently closed for repairs - Donatello and Fat Leo, along with Fratelli which became Street Thai a couple of years ago) all of which are famed for good service and decent food at low prices.
Street Thai does not disappoint - starters are great: we liked the Tom Yum Gai (I had it extra spicy - delicious!) and my wife's uck spring roll was great. Other reviewers have mentioned small sizes of the main courses but we did not find this to be the case and we enjoyed tiger prawns and the spicy noodles with chicken.
The wine list offers a good Sauvignon at less than £14 a bottle and I had a couple of large Singha beers which I think were about £4 - good value.
There is quite a large terrace at first floor level which I expect would be a real treat in summer.
A note for Theatre Royal goers: if you have one of the 10% off total bill coupons you have to insist it is honoured across the whole bill. Street Thai is apparently one step removed from the D Group and they apply the 10% discount to food only, but the coupon makes it clear it should include drinks too. They will apply it correctly if you insist.....

“Worth a Thai!”
Reviewed March 8, 2013 via mobile

Stumbled across this little gem in the lanes. Went in for the set menu £9 for 2 courses of £12 for 3.

Good range of set and normal menu. You get a slightly smaller portion on the set but its still reasonable. Food was really tasty and staff were very attentive.

I would recommend it for a quick bite to eat (it's open all day) or a casual evening meal.

In the summer it looks like they open a balcony upstairs!!
