If you are thinking of booking a Hotel or B&B for a short stay in Brighton, then think again. Before you book anything, take a look at 'Stanley' first. As fairly frequent visitors to Brighton, my partner and I have stayed in many of the Boutique Hotels and recommended B&B's. Whilst we have always had pleasant visits, I have to say, that Stanley compares much more favourably than any other place that we have ever stayed at.
Firstly, Stanley is a serviced apartment and you get all the benefits that go with it. It is a two bedroomed terraced house with a patio garden conveniently located at Queens park - just a few minutes walk from the main high street in Kemptown and 10/15 minute walk to the North Laines in Brighton. You have a comfortable front room kitted out with TV and Hi-FI (make sure you take some CD's with you). One of the nice touches is that the Hi-FI is piped through to the kitchen, so if you are cooking or just sitting out in the garden you can still bounce around to the music with your glass of wine. Unlike Hotels/B&B's, you have the run of the place and you don't have to share with any strangers. You have a fully equipped modern kitchen and you can cook for yourself - no more having to get up and have breakfast within a Hotel's specified eating times. Feel free to have a lie in without missing breakfast. If you don't want to cook your own breakfast, there is a lovely natural/organic cafe just a few minutes walk away on Queens Park Road (I think it was) called The Black Cherry. Again, a better breakfast than any of the hotels and B&B's. In addition, do a price comparison with Hotels and B&B's. If you are a group of 4 adults sharing 2 rooms I suggest you would probably get better value at Stanley. Another reason to look here before you book anywhere else.
With regards to the property, it is like a home from home. Every room in Stanley is absolutely spotless and maintained to a very high standard. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need for cooking or entertaining. There is a good sized bathroom/shower with a large cabinet for putting all your toiletries. The bedrooms are both a good size both with large double beds and what I liked mostly - the crispy white clean linen - we slept very well during our stay here. Both bedrooms offer lots of storage space but one bedroom in particular impressed me with it's massive wardrobe, big enough to probably hold half a dozen suitcases of clothing.
Then there is Hilary. Your Landlady. You are unlikely to meet a more friendly, welcoming and pleasurable person. Hilary pulls out all the stops to make sure that you are settled and comfortable. On our arrival she made sure we knew how to work very piece of equipment and shared with us all her extensive local knowledge that we needed for an enjoyable stay.
All in all, I can not recommend Stanley highly enough. It will be the first point of call for any future trips to Brighton. I suggest you do the same
We stayed here for a week with our two young children, and have only great things to say. The house itself is charming, well-kept and well-managed. The landlord, Hilary, went out of her way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. Everything we wanted to get to in Brighton was within walking distance, so we didn't need a car. The only thing I would recommend if you don't have a car is to order groceries for delivery, or plan to take a taxi home from the store because getting home from the centre of town (where the grocery stores are) is uphill.
The house is in a great neighbourhood close to Queen's Park, an impressive park with a giant playground (which the kids adored). Our kids also enjoyed playing on the enclosed back patio. There are also a couple of nice bars/restaurants around the corner, including an organic deli/cafe called Wild Cherry. We bought delicious croissants and coffee there in the mornings, and had lunch there one day and it was one of the best meals I've ever had.
The price for our stay was totally reasonable, especially when compared to hotels or other holiday rentals. All in all, I would highly recommend staying here if you're going to Brighton for more than a couple of days. It feels like home and is also a perfect option for little kids. They even supplied a portable cot for convenience!
