I had eaten at the restaurant last year and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Unfortunately our last visit was the complete opposite. Despite being booked weeks ago, our table wasn't ready so we were led to the 'hotel' next door and asked to wait 5 minutes. 30 minutes later, with no attempt from the management to let us know what was happening, and despite two of our party going to ask why we were still waiting, we decided to leave. As we walked back through the restaurant more people were being led to the 'hotel', presumably because their table wasn't ready yet.
The 'hotel' we were asked to wait in was a kind of lobby/games room, and was a most uncomfortable place to wait.
I felt that the restaurant had been over booked and we were certainly over looked which is totally unacceptable.
We were there to celebrate a friend's birthday, and being treated so badly was not part of the birthday plans.

The restaurant interior, although pastiche, is extraordinary. It is decorated like a 19th century theatre or music hall with booths and stairs to upper seating similarly decked out. There was a cabaret singer who was very good indeed. The staff is helpful and attentive.
The menu on the website and in the restaurant is hopeless talking mainly about parties of 12 or more. I suppose this reveals something about their target market but is simply confusing for smaller parties. (You just have to pay more).

The first courses (e.g. crab/leek/gruyere tartlet with hollandaise, proper homemade soup etc) were excellent. My main of chicken was dry, salty and had a weird and quite frankly unpleasant. My companions on the other hand seemed much happier. Someone had tomato sauce with a burger. It came with a Happy Shoppers £1 special offer bottle of ketchup. This sort of thing is out of keeping with the food quality and service they are clearly trying to promote.

The restaurant only had a few other tables filled on the evening we went. However, I would imagine with a suitable party and on a busy weekend night this could be a really fun evening out. In such circumstances the food should not disappoint.

Visited last weekend and had a great evening out. Had heard endless good reviews and wasn't disappointed.

The quirky design makes it a great place for lunch or dinner, with regular entertainment in the evenings (schedule online) We went in the evening with a cabaret female singer which was great. Nice that she does intervals so you can still talk.

Staff were friendly and welcoming, food was delicious but unfortunately lighting isn't great in the stalls so sometimes struggled to see what we were eating! Overall, an excellent quirky restaurant with a perfect location on the seafront.

Top tip - book a table in the elevated stalls area and save room for dessert.

Went here on 30th dec as we were on a new year break.
The staff were great and polite and helpful, the atmosphere was good as they had a live singer
and the food was lovely, had a fillett steak and i gota say it was one of the best i'd had for a while.
Didnt take long for the food to come out and we were able to sit in a cosy little booth.
Overall i would defo recommend it for its atmosphere and food - a great place !

Seven of us dined here on New Years Eve and had a fabulous and unique evening. The food was yummy and the value for NYE was exceptional.
We really enjoyed the opera singing - well done Adele and Toby. The decor is cleverly done, one really feels like a night at the opera. Because you are seated in boxes we were afraid we would be forgotten about, but the waiting staff are totally on top of things.
This is an excellent place to spend New Years Eve.
