“Fun night out with friends”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2014

Went here on Saturday night with some friends. Didn't have any trouble with the door people and we got in fairly quickly. The place was rammed as usual but we went upstairs and got a table pretty quickly. Shame the bar upstairs didn't do the Mesmerist Ginger Beer so we had to go to the packed downstairs bar. Was great fun seeing the bartenders shake 4 of those cocktails in one go! This is a great fun bar to go to with adults rather than all the other places frequented by teenagers and uni students.

“Overly agressive doormen with a strict no fun policy.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2014

Jobsworth doormen (see below) is spot on. Of course us being in fancy dress for a birthday would have severly hampered the fun of the people inside. Don't expect to get in unless your tie is done up to 11. That is unless you're a female prepared to get copious amounts flesh out - they didn't seem to have a problem with my friend dressed as a lifeguard. The bouncers were unneccesarily agressive about enforcing this strict, sexist anti-fun policy. We are perfectly reasonable human beings but it seemed appropriate for them to push us into the road leaving me to deal with a tearful girlfriend on her birthday. Horrible experience. Don't go to "brighton's most unconventional bar" - so unconventional that you're only allowed in if they deem you to be normal and don't want to have fun.

“Too angry to sum them up in one sentence”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014 via mobile

I am hosting a workshop here in Brighton on a Monday and Tuesday - where can I take them on a Monday night after a good meal a great atmosphere and some live music ? I had 4 colleagues - one eAch from Germany, Spain , Italy and France plus a female colleague from England - average age of 45 - but we can't get past the jobs worth gorilla on the door - apparently you have to one boy to every girl - so I got 3 girls to join us for a drink who were celebrating their 21st but no, that wasn't good enough as they didn't have id's on them to prove they were over 18 ! So had to apologise to my colleagues from Europe - it's. Monday night , we are not A crowd of unruly 18 year olds , the mesmerist s. bar not a night club but we cannot get in - wont be going back with or without a token female ! Pity as have really enjoyed previous Monday nights with my female partner but not again .

“Excellent food served up in good time and good price.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

We went for Sunday roast and it was really good. We were served bread and oil before the meal at no extra cost, the roast itself was really well cooked and we did not have to wait long at all. It is pay at the bar so no waitress service really but when the food arrived, the waitress made sure we had everything we wanted. A good pint too. The price of £10.50 is competitive for the area.
