“Pubs, coffee shops & sex shops!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2012

Kemp town is full of 'colourful' characters. There are a few of gay venues along St Jame's Street (steer clear of the 'bulldog'!) but nothing for the girls.

My favourite coffee shop is the 'red roaster' right at the Old Steine end of St James' Street, they serve really good coffee/ cakes, always have artwork on display, and have a glass front that opens fully in nice weather.

There are loads of pubs along St Jame's street and off all the side roads. Favourites are the St James' (a rum specialist). It has a MASSIVE rum list, including 3 lists where you can chose a selection to try for a set price, and serve cheap, nice Thai food. Often difficult to get a seat though, especially when there are performances in there. The Royal Oak is an ale based pub, nice old fashioned, with a nice beer garden. Very 'homey'. The Thomas Kemp - further into Kemp Town is also good, with a modern but classy feel, never too busy as it is a bit of a way out. Also does food though I have not eaten there.
