This place is brilliant, and free. If you have kids who are not too easily spooked (it is full of dead things, after all), take them down there - they will love it.

Always a good option with children. Doesn't take long to look round. Displays are pretty much the same each time. Staff always friendly.

I love the odd mix of things - vey idiosyncratic. And lots of exhibits that relate to the history of the locality. Well worth a visit and if you live in Brighton/Hove it's a must at some point.

Stuffed birds, butterflies, animals and little else, all in a rather worn-out looking building and some of the exhibits are a bit tired-looking too. You can take a bus out past Seven Dials and along Dyke Road, or walk (45 mins mostly uphill from Brighton Station). The view are pleasant and if you are feeling energetic it is worth the effort but don’t expect too much from the collection, which you can view in around 15 minutes.
