Staff are so rude, room is terrible, dust everywhere, couldn't of been cleaned for a long time, we spoke to a member of staff about it in a very calm and polite way, he told us to to get out and he would refund us, no apology and wasn't interested in what we were saying. I would really advise you not to stay there, ok it's cheap but even if it was free I wouldn't expect to be treated like it.

On the website when booking it clearly says all rooms come with a full English breakfast. We were surprised then to get am e mail the day before arrival offering us breakfast at the 'special' advanced rate of £7.50, on arrival the manager was telling the women in front they were in the better rooms not the 'cheaper but not as nice' rooms, probably not to be said in earshot of said people staying in these rooms! He then said that they couldn't update their website and that was why it still clearly says breakfast included in the rates but wasn't really very apologetic about it.

To be fair our 'cheap but not as nice' room was nice. It was very compact but all nice and new and modern with a nice little balcony overlooking the old pier. We wouldn't have minded so much about the breakfast not being included if the manager had just been a bit more polite but he was pretty rude really.

I feel that the manager was rude and when we went to get our breakfast that is stated as being included in the room rates, he told us its not even though it still clearly states breakfast is included on this web site. The owners mother tried to get the manager to allow us to have breakfast he refused and told her its non of her business and she shouldn't get involved as he is the manager. He said if we ordered a breakfast it would cost £8 each and he would charge to our cards.

One of our guest party was cramped in a small room where one out of the three had a camp bed that collapsed and the managers reply was the cleaners must have done it as a practical joke. I'd like to point out not funny it's a health and safety matter!

On the up side the rooms were clean and tidy and the views are lovely. And so was the owners mother, however I can't say the same for the manager!

Managers explanation for the breakfast not included in room rate is that can't remove from website as don't know the code so shall we see if he knows the code to remove my feedback,

Room Tip: Make sure you get your breakfast as it is clearly on the site description breakfast included in room...

I stayed with a friend for the weekend 26th/27th April. The room was small but so clean. The sheets on the bed were lovely crisp white cotton, the mattresses were spotless and the towels were fluffy and smelt lovely. The room was small and so was the en-suite but it was so clean and had everything that we needed. There was an iron, ironing board, hairdryer, tv, dvd player and tea making facilities. There are even dvd's in reception that are available to borrow. It was ideal for a weekend, the location is perfect for the sea front and the Lanes and shopping centres. We even walked to Hove in about 15 minutes. We will definitely be staying again, definitely value for money.

We arrived to what we thought was a junior double (no ensuite) and we were so impressed to find our room had a new and decent shower and wash area! The only thing our room did not have was a toilet which the shared toilet was nearby and very clean (it also looked recently refurbished!). The room not only met but exceeded our expectations it was warm (it's been snowing all April!), nicely decorated with a flat screen tv with free view. We took advantage of the DVD library which was free and is at reception. Reception were friendly and efficient. The hotel was excellent value and a wonderful location a few minutes from town and bars. We were honestly expecting a rough little B and B and what we got was a lovely hotel! We will be returning to the cecil!

Location is great - opposite what's left of West Pier and right in the seafront. Staff are friendly & most helpful and quickly rectified a smelly basin & shower (!) as well as provided extra pillows & even a spare umbrella. There's a downstairs bar that's open to the public which was good fun & the food coming out looked very good. BUT the bed was incredibly uncomfortable, there was no wardrobe or any space to hang clothes or even coats and the en suite arrangement was the strangest I've ever seen. Obviously an add-on, but so ill-conceived. The toilet/shower wall didn't reach the ceiling (possibly so as not to interrupt the original Victorian features?) and nothing except this to separate the toilet & shower from the rest of the room and the basin was set in one of the alcoves. Yep, hard to imagine...! I wouldn't stay here again, which is a shame seeing as I visit Brighton at least twice a year

Room Tip: Maybe ask to see one first!
