“Very pleasant stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

I stayed for a weekend in early October 2013. I was very comfortable in my bedroom, which was nicely decorated and had a good bathroom. The staff were polite and helpful. The breakfast was very good, you could have what you wanted. I had the evening meal on both evenings and it was excellent. I liked the relaxed, intimate atmosphere of the dining room. The hotel is in a good location close to the sea front and the pier.

I stayed here in a triple room with my father and son on the Sunday night during the recent Hurricane / bad weather. We were checked in and shown to our room by a manageress, who was very pleasant and friendly. The hotel can provide parking permits to guests, that allow on-street parking for 24 hours at a time, in three nearby streets, for £7.50, which in Brighton is a very good price. Our room had a double and a single bed, which although disappointing, I had hoped for three single beds, was manageable. The room was very nicely appointed, with an attractive bay window , with table and chairs, that overlooked the square, and yes there was a sea view, I suppose we were about 300yards from what on that night was a very choppy sea.
The ensuite shower room was a snug fit, with little room to manouver, but nicely decorated, and the shower was hot.
Beds were comfortable. We were given a key to access the hotel, so that we were able to come and go as we pleased.
Breakfast was included in our room rate, our pleassant manageress from the day before was on duty serving coffe and taking breakfast orders. The coffee was hot, plentiful and good, we opted for the full English whch was very nicely presented, and had a particularly good organic local sausage.
I chose the hotel to be near my other son's accommodation, as the purpose of our week-end was both social, and to help him move out of his flat, but it was also very central, and walking to the LANES in the evening took about 10-15 minutes.

Thank you for your review and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay with us - we do have a selection of triples with 3 single beds as well but I believe none were available when you booked.

I do hope you choose to return to stay with us again soon.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the New Steine Hotel for a weekend in October 2013 and we enjoyed every minute. The deluxe room décor was even better than the picture: the bed was comfortable, the wardrobe spacious, and the bathroom clean and well-finished. But the staff were the highlight of our stay. The welcome was very warm, and everyone we met was happy to help with all our needs. They really were excellent.

The only negative was the window that needs to be double-glazed, as the glass is so thin you can hear a dog bark from across the street, let alone the noise of the traffic (which to be fair was minimal as the hotel is situated in a fashionable square) and passing pedestrians.

My friend and I stayed at New Steine on Thursday night. The hotel is conviniently located just minutes walk away from Brighton Pier, the beach, shopping area and other main tourist attractions. On our arrival we received warm welcome from the hotel owner. We were provided with a parking voucher alongside with a infomration sheet that included detailed infomration of what to do with the voucher and where to best park in Kemp Town (very helpful!). We could leave our luggages at the hotel and went to park a car in one of the road just 2 min away from the hotel.

We felt well looked after during our stay and had a pleasent stay overall but the most outstanding thing about our stay at New Steine was its restaurant. The food there is of a very high quality, Stephen (the manager) was very knowledgable about the food and his recommendations were great! Great wines too!

I would reccommend this place to anyone and I will definately be back. New Steine make a perfect destination for nice & relaxing get away with comfortable accommodation and great food.

I look forward to my next visit!

I stayed at this hotel a few years back for New Year and liked it then. However the whole place has since been upgraded by the friendly guys who run it - Stephane and Herve.
The hotel is very clean and stylish within this price band. The staff all do their utmost to make you feel welcome and to make sure that you enjoy your stay.
They are very accommodating, even when travel plans change at the last minute!
The food is excellent and they take care to promote and use local Sussex ingredients wherever they can. The hotel is set in a quiet and stylish square with some rooms offering views of the sea. The hotel is in a fascinating part of town - close enough to the centre to be handy, but far enough away so as not to be too noisy. Thanks to you for another excellent stay - I'll certainly be back again!

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms have a sea view if that is important to you.

Stayed with a group of 20 ladies for a hen weekend in August, staff were very helpful, food was lovely. Due to the size of our party we ate breakfast in the conference room downstairs, which was great so we didnt disturb other guests. The choice was good and hot food cooked to order. Rooms were clean and very modern and hotel is in an excellent location for the pier and beach. However if you are clubbing at Oceana that's quite a walk, but taxi's are plenty and not too expensive. Beds were comfy and clean. The only downside was that the seagulls were very squawky all through the night but that cant be helped we were right by the sea! We were at the front of the hotel which was quite noisy as windows were open due to warm weather. I really enjoyed the stay, would 100% recommend it and would not hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back if you are a light sleeper

We stayed here during the last week of August for one night with two children and needed a family room at short notice.

The New Steine is on the whole a good small hotel in an excellent location. Our room was a good size but I would say in need of a deep clean and redecorate / update (carpet well worn, marks on walls, fabric pictures looking shabby).

In fact you could say the same of other parts of the hotel.....some of the rooms we noticed were very smart and modern, as was the one of the middle floor toilets, where as our room bathroom was tired and old fashioned (and strangely had a set of table and chairs in there !)

Other minor issues were:

- creaky & noisy floorboards in the room above
- beds are not great - too springy
- due to family, no room to have breakfast upstairs (which looked nice), so we were put downstairs in the lower ground floor which again was a bit shabby and unappealing !
- We had an accessible patio/garden area, but it wasn't that well kept and not private.

On a positive note:

- great location
- good deal on the parking which is close by
- quaint and charming
- good breakfast
- staff were friendly and helpful

All in all not a bad place at all, just needs to brought to the same standard throughout, so all guests receive the same experience staying here. Having WiFi would also be useful.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review and we are glad that on the whole you enjoyed your stay with. We have a regular refurbishment schedule that includes all rooms as and when requried, but obvioulsy some may be older style than others over time, but we are glad for your comments so that we can schedule this room next.
On another note, we do offer free Wi-Fi which is advertised in the room and at Reception.
