We were in Brighton for the World Fantasy Convention and Halloween was also our first wedding anniversary. So rather than stay in the convention hotel, we wanted something special and the Pelirocco looked perfect. So we booked in the Pin-Up Parlour (aka the Diana Dors suite).

Things got off to a bit of a rocky start. We arrived an hour before check-in (3pm) and the reception staff said our room wouldn't be ready until 3. No problem, we said, and went off to convention instead. However, when we came back at 3, the room still wasn't ready. We killed some time in the bar, getting more and more frustrated as we wanted to unpack, unwind and head back to the convention. They let us chill out in a separate room while we waited and finally our room was ready a little before 4pm.

The style and uniqueness can't be faulted, but the room is nowhere near as plush as it looks on the website. As previous reviewers have noted, everything does seem a little tired and worn. The bed was comfortable enough but is probably well past retirement age. And while the bedroom was a pin-up parlour, the bathroom had no decoration whatsoever and flushing the toilet set the pipes banging noisily for a good 15 seconds after every flush. Not very nice for other guests in the middle of the night! The power socket for the kettle didn't work either. We were out at the convention all day on Friday and came back to change for the evening at 4 pm only to find that the room hadn't been done yet. Sure enough, as soon as we started to get ready, a maid knocked on the door and we had to ask her to come back once we'd left again.

What does deserve special mention is the reception and bar staff, who were absolutely wonderful. They were exceptionally friendly and made us feel like family. Breakfast was a real treat every morning and check-out was seamless. (They'd agreed to waive the late check-out fee because of the late check-in but in the end we didn't need to leave late.)

Would we stay here again? I'm not sure. We'd love to see the Bettie Page Boudoir but not at the cost of waiting around to get into our room and then being disappointed with the whole experience. We'll have to think about it.

My friend had stayed here a couple of times so thought we'd give it a go....to be honest quirky but all a little drab and dated.

Beds felt it hadn't been replaced for a decade, staff were friendly, hotel is in a great location...just anticipated it was a tad more plush!!

My partner booked this hotel very last minute when we decided to head to Brighton for a Saturday night out. Quirky really is the best word to describe this hotel. We had the 'Modrophenia' themed room - every teenage boys dream come true I should think!!! A 'parka' bedspread, Vespa bedside tables and fun art on the walls. The bedroom is a decent size (view is of neighbouring back alleys, but hey we had the window open all night and could hear the sea), and the bathroom is huge. All in all very clean and good fun. The proprietor/manager greeted us in the quaint little bar area - he was very helpful and polite - and mixed a mean cocktail or two for us late that evening. If you want somewhere central to stay (its only a few doors down from the Metropole), with easy parking (NCP opposite) and a late drink when you get back (bar open till 4am), then this is the place to stay.

What an amazing hotel made even better by the staff who make you feel like it's a big family day out. We did a really fun cocktail class on Saturday afternoon which set us up for a great evenings entertainment. On returning to Pelirocco at 3am Marco was ready to make us even more cocktails. The decor makes this hotel stand out as a cut above the normal boring everyday hotels you normally find. Pretty much all the guests were taking photos of the walls which are covered with either wacky wallpaper of posters. You MUST give this place a try, you won't regret it. Top Class!!

Doesn't look much from the outside but once through the door the quirkiness definitely hits you. As promised this themed hotel everywhere you look in hallway and bar are posters music memorabilia. The reception area was staffed by very pleasant and helpful staff leading into a bar area with mismatched furniture which may have been picked up from a car boot sale or pinched from your granny's kitchen but this works for a themed hotel. The room was clean and As we stayed in the pin up parlour it was as expected luxurious a bit over the top but we expected nothing less. There are some general wear and tear issues but didnt spoil our fun. It is what it is a themed hotel if you want plain and simple I.e a mass produced breakfast go somewhere else. The breakfast was home made and lovely taken in the same area where the previous night we had some devilishly fun cocktails. Brilliant stay. Fun and cheesy just what we expected and weren't disappointed. Looking forward to trying another theme next time maybe the nookii room lol
