We arrived here on day 1 of our European holiday. Straight off the plane from Australia after a very long flight and a car full of a months worth of luggage.
Our initial reaction was that it did not look promising. The facade is quite run down and there was no sign of anywhere to park in the vicinity. I had to drop my wife off to find out what was going on while I waited in a lane way around the corner.
This is where we found out just how good it is to be staying somewhere where the staff really want to look after their customers. Wonderful Sheila on reception left the counter and found my car in the lane way. A good car park had been reserved for us in a private car park across a lane next the hotel. Then this petite (50kg max) woman took about 40kg of luggage from the car and took it across the lane to the hotel for us. My young son and I took the rest of our luggage (another 60 kg) to reception, where we were met by other helpers who insisted on carrying all our luggage up two flights of stairs to our room (no lifts in the hotel).
Our room was a circular beach front room. Stunning view. Stunning bath. Nicely furnished. Our son fell straight to sleep and couldn't be roused, but we felt we could enjoy everything without leaving a room.
There is a lot of road noise in the room, but nothing our ear plugs from the plane couldn't handle and we slept well.
The wet room was nice and modern with a great shower. I have never understood the wet room concept - it sounds impractical and this one didn't convince me otherwise - but it was fun to try one for the first time.
Unfortunately we couldn't use the restaurant with a sleeping child but my wife ordered so soup and a sandwich from it and it was delivered to the room. It was magnificent - best room service ever. Breakfast was also excellent and great value with a continental buffet including fresh strawberries, fresh squeezed OJ and cappuccino for six pounds, or 12.50 if including an eggs benedict or full English.
Overall the stay far exceeded our expectations. The view could not be beaten and the service far exceeded anything I have experienced even in $1000 a night hotels.
