“the worst hotel ever!”
Reviewed January 2, 2008

this is the first time ive reviewed a hotel, but i was compelled to
write about this one to warn other travellers coming down to brighton, dont stay here!
to start with the shabby room and bathroom was below stantard, but what would you expect for that price. but the main reason i write this review is down to the rude and hostile hotel manager. his manner and tone was offensive, he has let the hotel owner down, i will definately not recommend any one to come stay here, find a better more friendly hotel to give your hard earned cash too!!!!!

Tony's wife, Jennifer, upgraded our room to the best in in the hotel without us even asking since several rooms had cancelled a block booking. Opening our curtains to the sunrise on the pier, almost directly in front, was a lovely romantic moment.
I had read (on this site) about Tony's breakfasts and they were generous and quickly prepared, setting us both up for a marathon of Christmas shopping. (I'm a hotel chef - I should know!)
It's true that one or two screws on door handles needed tightening, and as a reviewer said, a drop of paint here and there wouldn't go amiss. And at the end of a season, however, these glitches were to be expected and only cosmetic. The friendliest of welcomes from the whole family, overcame any minor shortcomings. We searched many databases before choosing the Atlantic Hotel -next time we visit Brighton we will make them our first call. It may be a cliche, but we arrived as strangers and left as friends.

  • Liked — Huge room with great view of the pier
  • Disliked — Loose screws on the door handle. Not inconvenient though.

Tony, the owner of this place, is a lovely chap.; very friendly, efficient and makes a lovely breakfast (a few veggie sauages wouldn't go amiss but there are other choices and the full English is very generous, according to my partner!). OK, so the hotel could do with a major lick of paint and the beds could do with a bit of upholstery, however, for a cheap and cheerful couple of nights plus, the price is great, the location brilliant (and quiet, surprisingly!) and, if you get a sea view, it's the best in Brighton: straight over looking at the pier. The shower could be a bit keener and there is no lift so prepare yourself for that but I'd certainly stay there again and you just can't beat the price for location and views. Note re. parking - park at the Marina - free and you can get a bus to and from there quite cheaply. Also, when loading/unloading car, use loading bays across from the front of the hotel where you get free parking for max. 20 mins (as Brighton trafic wardens are notorious!)

  • Liked — Staff - couldn't be friendlier and location superb
  • Disliked — No lift
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't expect the Hilton and you'll not be disappointed!
