“I night stopover”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2014

Stayed for I night at this hotel. The hotel's a little tired, but we were made very welcome. We had been given a 3rd floor room with no lift, but the receptionist changed it when she saw I was disabled.
Breakfast was well cooked and fresh. There was a good selection of cereals and fruit. We had a gentle stroll into Brighton on the day we arrived and found a Wetherspoons which served good food. All in all very friendly hotel.

Spend two nights in this hotel this week, room was very tired, furniture was dated, many burn marks on the carpet and a lack of pillows! For £150 for two nights it's not to bad considering it's on the border of Brighton, but we expected more than what we got for our money, we were disappointed on arrival as the room was very cold, then when we called reception we were informed the heating had been off since the start of may, which is not very useful to anyone during a wet and windy weekend in Brighton. We had a bath which was great, but we could only fill it up by running the shower! The staff were friendly and helpful, very fast check in and check our which is always appreciated! We would consider staying here again as we will be regularly visiting Brighton in the future, but it's not the ideal hotel for a romantic weekend away!

Thank you for taking the trouble to leave a review; naturally we were sorry to learn you experienced some challenges during your stay. Having re-carpeted the majority of the 'common parts' we are now turning our attention to the bedrooms, so hopefully next time you visit, you will see a further improvement

Clearly the colder day you mention wasn't helpful though we are always happy to provider heaters to give some instant warmth so please accept my apologies if this wasn't offered

With the weather now on the up a trip to sunny Brighton and Hove could be just what the doctor ordered

I was attending a fundraiser at Hove Town Hall - so this was a perfect location. Of course, I could - like many of the people on Tripadvisor - find fault. The hotel needs updating but I understand this is being done over time. There is no lift which was a little challenging - but good for the lungs. However, there were plenty of good points. The location is great and easy to find. My room was clean, functional and I slept extremely well. Breakfast was lovely and the blonde girl who served my daughter and I (sorry - didn't ask her name) was extremely sweet and helpful, as were the rest of the catering staff. A credit to good training and customer service. Loved the cute little croissants and the generous cooked breakfast. Lots of choice too, including many juices and fresh fruit - all fully appreciated. Something for everyone. My teen is fussy but she was extremely happy. Nothing worse than a grumpy adolescent!

But the staff on reception are perhaps a little more surly and it might benefit the atmosphere of the hotel and mood of the guests to encourage them to be a more pleasant. I appreciate that people work hard but a smile is invaluable. Also, after going out for a walk and coming back to pick up my bags, I did not appreciate a reminder that it was time to check out. I think think this is rude, considering I was walking up the stairs to do just that. We had also asked for an alarm call at 8am but it had not arrived at 8.15 - when we finally went down for breakfast. Not a huge thing but if we had overslept, we would have missed breakfast - which would have been inconvenient. In general, I think warmer reception would help the hotel so much.

But I would in general like to thank you for my stay. I think over time, if the rooms are made a little more cheerful and with a level of personality that they currently lack, it will be a great little place that I would love to recommend to others.

Thank you for such a balanced review. Veronica is delighted by your comments and generally we are heartened that you enjoyed your stay so much. Equally we are sorry you felt the reception team were perhaps less warm. Customer service has to be right every time and please accept our apologies that the wake up call was running late

Hopefully the business part of your trip to our lovely City went well and that we can see you back from Berkshire before too long. Some really great feedback and that will help us push the Langfords further

With best wishes

We just returned from Langfords Hotel after spending three nights there for a long weekend, with my husband and daughter. We had double and single room both were clean and cosy.
Lovely garden area outside and staff were very friendly, we would have no hesitation on returning
to this hotel and recommending to our friends etc.
The hotel is great value for money and is in an ideal location to walk along the seafront, or few minutes into Hove shopping area and restaurants.
The rooms have Tea/Coffee and hairdryer, flat screen TV.
Thanks for an enjoyable stay!

We really enjoyed your visiting from North of the Border and thank you for such a positive affirmation of what the Langfords has to offer

Sitting contentedly along Third Avenue, the Langfords tries to provide value for money and as you say, has a super garden and is only a only a short walk from our beautiful seafront

Hopefully we can see you back before too long. Renewed thanks meanwhile

We were very satisfied with our stay here: the staff were friendly and helpful; our room an OK size with fresh linen & towels; and the one issue we had regarding a stiff bath tap was resolved promptly. As a late booking we secured a very reasonable room rate too.
Our only criticism was that the room definitely needed an update: the furniture was jaded; the mattress rather lumpy; and the electrical appliances due for a safety check.

Thank you for leaving such a balanced review and great that you enjoyed your stay. As you say the Langfords has a great deal to offer and aims to provide value for money

We are making good progress with our ongoing room refurbishment program and pleased rest assured that the electrical safety testing has been scheduled for May which will resolve this important aspect. There has been a slight delay in awaiting a training course place

Hopefully your plans will allow you to visit again from Worcester before too long. Renewed thanks meanwhile

What a lovely hotel. Stayed here as we needed somewhere cheap and cheerful for a one nights stay but we're pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hotel is bright and clean, the garden is a nice treat, the communal toilets in the bar are pristine and the staff are very friendly and helpful. When we arrived we were told that as they were quiet we were being upgraded. We walked into our room and it was bigger than my flat. It was bright and airy, there was a beautiful four poster bed, a balcony with a sea view (not direct) and a seating area. We didn't eat here so cannot comment on the food however. I would love to stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone else

Clean, very basic rooms. Tea/coffee making facilities, Decent small TV. All I needed for good nights sleep after being out and about in Brighton.
Staff pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was really good and thoroughly enjoyed by all of the party I was with.
For the price, in Brighton/Hove during Easter hols, about right. If you want 5 star, be prepared to pay for 5 star (this aimed at some other reviewers!)
Taxi +/- £6.50 to/from The Lanes or it's a lovely walk along the Prom to help work off the breakfast.
Loads of parking, £6/day right outside (LOTS of traffic wardens!!!)

What a super review and thank you so much for visiting from the delightfully named Wool in Dorset

As you have kindly pointed out, the Langfords tries to do "what it says on the tin" as a value for money, mid-range hotel. Chef Krys is also over the moon and hopefully we can see you back here before too long

Meanwhile, renewed thanks and have a great Easter

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Langfords Hotel in Hove is situated on a tree-lined avenue a short stroll from the shingle beach of Brighton and Hove’s historical seafront; only a fifteen minute walk from the bustling centre of the South Coast’s famous seaside resort of ‘kiss-me-quick’ Brighton. Although Brighton retains its cheeky reputation, it has grown up considerably since it merged with its immediate neighbour, Hove – when it became a new British city for the Millennium; a gift from HM The Queen! The combined treat of ‘Brighton & Hove’ officially merging, is that the City has become one of Britain’s most savvy twenty-first century Media Hubs – and The Langfords keeps pace happily, with conference packages to suit corporate delegates or for ‘start-ups’ in need of some space when meeting with clients…The Langfords is a lovely, red-brick Victorian building echoing with old charm and brimming with character. The hotel has 58 very well proportioned bedrooms (all with en-suite facilities), and the spacious lounge bar has direct access to our lawned gardens – perfect for relaxing in on those sunny summer days and warm evenings. We also have eight function suites and a reputation for excellent conference and wedding facilities. ... more   less
