“Lovely hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2013

stayed here for the weekend and have to say one of the best hotels we have stayed in. Arrived from Brighton train station on Friday evening (easy to find ,out of station straight ahead as far as sea front then 100 metres on the left!) checked in easily at reception friendly staff told us where bar, restaurant and stairs/lift to room was. Stayed in room 108, slight view of the sea. Room was clean, warm very welcoming. There was big wardrobe with iron/ironing board, hairdryer, trouser press, tea/coffee making facilities, flat screen tv with freeview and toiletries in bathroom. Beds were very comfortable, and even though weekend and situated on first floor sleep wasn't disturbed. Breakfast in the morning was amazing, The older lady who greeted us was lovely, very professional and friendly. There was so much breakfast to chose from: full English, cereal, pastries, cakes, fruit, dried fruits and yoghurts. The bar is a very nice and relaxing area, plenty of space to sit and have a quiet drink. Check out of the hotel is 11am. The hotel is just few minutes walk from the pier and big wheel, and plenty of pubs and fish and chip shops all around on the sea front. Prices are quite expensive (£6.50 fish and chips, £3-£6 per fun fair ride, £2.50 an ice cream ) but what you'd expect really. There is a sightseeing bus £10 adults which leaves the pier regular. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and will be returning in the summer for sure!

Really had a great stay from the moment we arrived at the Old Ship Hotel primarily due to the calibre of the staff working there. From the moment we pulled into the garage to checking-out 2 days later, every member of staff was friendly, helpful and professional. We had a fantastic deal on a 2 night break with a 3 course meal on the first night. The quality of the food exceeded our expectations. the hotel has a quiet bar with a lovely atmosphere & the selection of wine & beer, including one real ale on draft, was very good. the sfaff in the bar & restaurant go out of thier way to be helpful & friendly, without being over-attentive. The location of the hotel couldn't be better & I would highly recommend staying here.

This was my 1st time at "The Old Ship" and it will not be my last..the staff..ALL the staff were very frendly, NOT over the top. The room was clean, basic but just enough, I wish they had told me where the tea making facilities were, it was not until leaving the room and checking cubourds that we found it in the DRESSING TABLE !!!
Overall will be back !!!

Room Tip: Room number 222 good view of the sea front.

Our first visit to Brighton and went into this hotel 'on spec' with our daughter and grandaughter for a snack lunch and a glass of wine - we were pleasantly suprised with our sandwich snack, including excellent chips, and enjoyed our accompanying wines by the glass. The service was very good and the hotel sitting areas very comfortable and all very child friendly although there was no baby changing facility.

Delightful, comfortable accommodation and excellent friendly staff. Our room on the 5th floor overlooked the sea front and was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed. The lift is 'cosy' and adds to the old world charm. The location is wonderfully close to everything and our stay has been a most enjoyable.

Friday, on arrival, the first impressions were excellent, managed to arrive early enough to be able to park in hotel car park.Room pleasant with sea view. Ordered wine with our meal, most of it wasn't available and had to ask the waiter, which ones they did have! Woke middle of night and unable to sleep again, due to the street noisy from revellers. I even checked the window wasn't open ! Complained about the noise next morning and the Duty Manager said'welcome to Brighton, this is what it is like' I do feel you should still be able to sleep. Moved us to the 5th floor., Went to breakfast, women sitting in pyjamas!, orange juice watered down, felt at least tea and coffee could have been served at the table. Food was fine. After getting ready for an evening out, found the blind in bathroom had no cord, so couldn't be pulled up,the radiator didn't work and bathroom door was dirty from finger prints. Reported this to the Reception, who said it would be looked at while we were out. It wasn't! Slept well until we were woken up twice with a stag party on our floor, running up and down and being very loud. Checked out straight after breakfast, even though we had a Loyalty card(which will never get used again!) and could have stayed longer! I complained to Head Office, who forwarded it to the hotel. I had a reply from Paul Wright, the General Manager who said he was addressing the problems, which should not have happened in the first place as it ruined our Anniversary weekend. My advise would be,to spend your money at a well-known hotel, where you know what standard to expect!

Room Tip: Seaviews are lovely, if you don't want to sleep!

I was dissapointed to see your review on here.

As per my letter to you the noise issue from outside is difficult to control. Brighton is a lively city with a vibrant nightlife. We have security on call in the hotel and if we had been advised you were being disturbed by other guests we would have immediatly dealt with this.
