“Well below par for such a nice hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

Stayed for 2 nights, on a room only basis and on check in, I was pleasantly advised that I was getting a room upgrade with a sea facing 5th floor room nos 511. The room was very spacious and it had access to a large balcony. The views from the balcony windows overlooked the beach and the burnt out sea-pier however, the room windows were filthy, with what must have been weeks, if not months when they were last cleaned. What a shame, a view to die for, but, nobody seems to bother to clean the windows which would take 5-10 minutes max to clean. I mentioned it to the receptionist the next morning; however, he was totally uninterested and mumbled something about outside contractors does this type of work!
At one point of my stay, I wanted to order some food from room service and rang from the room, nobody bother to pick up the phone. Still hungry, I went downstairs to the bar area to order some snack food, but, there was nobody about, including the reception area and this was @ 2.00pm
I tried again later to order food from the room service and to my surprise the phone was picked up straight away. I went on to order a sandwich and was told it would take at least ½ - 3/4hr hour to deliver. I decided not to bother and walked 100 yards from the hotel to a sandwich shop and bought a sandwich at a ¼ of the price which I would have bought one at the hotel ( lost profit for the hotel!).
As for migrating profit from the hotel, the next example will make the G.M. pull his hair out. On checking in at the hotel, the receptionist never updated me that one could buy discounted vouchers for breakfast. The next morning, I came down for breakfast and was advised that the discounted vouchers were only available if purchased the day before and I would have to pay the full price if I wanted to eat breakfast that morning. I felt bitter, if not slightly conned and declined to pay this premium and as such, ate an English breakfast (x 2 days) in a restaurant less than 75 yards from the hotel – freshly cooked at only £4.95!
The bed was extremely comfortable and an excellent night’s sleep was assured. Although overlooking the main beach road, it was relatively quiet after 10.30pm and as such, I would certainly recommend this room for a pleasant stay. However, it’s a Shame about the shoddy service; the take it or leave it attitude and with the resultant migrating profit, let’s hope the hotel manages to remain in business in the tough economic times ahead.

Room Tip: The top floor is the 5th floor - Ask for a sea facing room

Dear Guset,

Thank you so much for your comments regarding your recent stay at the Holiday Inn Brighton Seafront.

It would appear you did not have the best service experience at the Holiday Inn Brighton Seafront, which as General Manager I feel very dissapointed with and will take the neccasary action in dealing with each department.

You are correct on all levels and as a new GM to Brighton these comments are great and will help me with further training with the team.

Once again thank you for your comments.

Kind regards,

Wayne Mansfield

One night business stay, car parking poor and difficult although the underground car park is secure.
Check in was a nightmare as the daily coach load of foreign tourists had arrived and swamped the two reception staff.
Nice upgraded room, reasonable room service but, apart from an occasional business need, I won't be dashing back!

A nice room and pleasant staff. However the trip was ruined by blaring disco noise until 6am from a club nearby. Made the stay intolerable. Avoid for this reason. If only this was stopped! Shame because all else fine

Dear Wythie,

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay with the Holiday Inn Brighton Seafront.

Regarding the noise from a nearby club, we have spoken to the owner and the council are now looking at the licence held at the club, as it is not acceptable for music to be blaring until 6am, which disturbs Hotel residents as well as residents in the surrounding area.

Once again thank you for your comments on this subject, which I have now passed onto the Local authorities.

Stayed here for one night 9th February.

Hotel is right on the seafront and very convenient for the City centre and Lanes shopping, and about 10 minute walk from the Brighton Pier. The reception staff are very helpful.

Arrived around mid-day and was allocated our room immediately, which was nice so we could drop off our bags and then ventur out and about.

The rooms are clean and adequately sized, although the TV's are dated. We were allocate droom 240 which was in the centre of the hotel, and did not hear any noise during the night as others have mentioned.

We didn't eat in the hotel, but, had a couple of drinks from the bar which weren't a rip off.

All in all a comfortable stay and would recommend / stay again if the price was around the same.

Room Tip: Room 240 was located in the centre of the the hotel, and we were not disturbed by any noise from the...

chose this hotel as needed to be in brighton for the weekend for work, stay in holiday inns alot and usually suit my needs.
This hotel has a great lcoation on the front, on arrival we pulled up outside whilst i went and checked in, only 1 person on the desk at 2pm (main check in time) and waited for around 20mins, just as i got to the front of the queue another member of staff came out - i actually ended up being served by both of them, parking was £15 pretty standard for a HI Hotel and brighton, reception and bar were cheaply modern but lacked atmosphere but were ok.
Our bedroom was ok, spacios but very dated - not even a flat screen TV which i think i a basic minimum these days, the decor was old, carpet old, bathroom was ok - however i dumped myself and went out to work, my main problem was when i came back around 10pm - the room was so cold, i put the heating upto 30 degrees but nothing, there was an awful cold wind come from under the bath and under the door into the bedrooms, due to the time of night and me being tired i did just get in bed.. Having paid £125 for this hotel , i appreciate its location but having stayed in many Holiday inns around the country this is probably one of the worst - if your going to brighton, pay a little more and stay in the Grand !!!!!

Dear Lennythemidlands,

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay with the Holiday Inn Brighton Seafront.

I have spoken with the Front Office Manager regarding your check in and your wait of 20 minutes which is unacceptable and we are investigating the matter. The main check in time for our Hotel is between 17.00-19.00 when we will have 80% of our check in's, this is when we will have an extra member of staff on.

The rooms are dated and a bedroom refurbishment is to take place over the next 18-24 months, new flat screen tv's will be in place over the next two months.

Once again thank you for your comments.

I had checked in on valentines night and the lady on reception i think her name was jaycean or something cant really remember .. But she was very friendly and helped me and my partner a lot... Dinner was nice only thing is i asked for a well done steak and it wasn't i had sent it back and when it came back it still wasn't well done . Staff in the restaurant are also friendly and welcoming even though we came for dinner quite late. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and the pancakes are so yummy .

Myself and my partner stayed for two nights 13/02/2013-15/02/2013. We had booked a room with king size bed for our valentines break. 1st night we get into our bed to find its 2 single mattresses shoved together which was extremely uncomfortable and heating in room wasn't working. We complained the following morning and was upgraded to a seaview king room which was lovely however we decided to have a bath at 5:30 that evening as we had a table reservation for valentines day only to find the bath was filthy, mud everywhere and the water didn't drain. We then complained again and in this time missed our reservation. We was offered 20% off our bill which didn't make up for anything at all. The following day the whole hotel was evacuated due to fire alarms going off at 7:20am! Poor service, dirty and needs a makeover. Will never stay again.
Also trying to get a drink or bite to eat from the bar is impossible as there's no staff there you have to use a phone to call someone to serve you!!!!!!!!!
