Description: A Brighton pub you'll never be bored of.Just a stone's throw from Preston Park, you'll find a pub that's cosmopolitan Brighton at its best. Alongside our impressive range of speciality drinks and pub food at The Park View, you'll find a line-up of interesting activities throughout the week, such as Tai Chi Mat and the odd live band too, with the Peruvian nose flute making an occasional appearance.

“Dont go back!”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

Terrible experience, limited space to eat, staff were slow & untidy, particularly the american girl who acted if she owned the place. The food was average at best and lukewarm when finally received. A lot of tables were apparently reserved but nobody seemed to turn up! Definately one to avoid if visiting Brighton!

“Sunday lunch visit”
Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

We have been coming to this place on an off over the years, mostly because we desperately hope the owners would take note of criticism and up their game. The venue is fantastic and has such character, it's so let down by what goes on inside. The food is always OK, and they have good beers on as well as offers on wine. Being a review site, the negatives will come out perhaps more than the positives.

Today we went for a spot of lunch, I had a roast beef and my wife had fish cakes. The staff were friendly enough and we were accommodated despite not having booked.

The drinks came almost immediately and the food within ten minutes. Both dishes were average, beef a little stringy and the chips with the fish cakes weren't that nice. The Yorkshire pud was soggy. It does make you wonder what goes on in the kitchen, is the food pre made and kept hot or re-heated, there's no way it's freshly cooked at that speed? Maybe I'm wrong.

The place was fairly busy, our table hadn't been wiped and neither were other tables as people left and new guests arrived. It gives a scruffy, shabby feel. There's a stressful atmosphere and it's actually quite cold, despite the fact that there are fireplaces throughout which could be lit.

One of my biggest bugbears is the 10% service automatically slapped on the bill, while I know it's not compulsory to pay it, it creates a problem to contest it, in any establishment. It's my decision whether you deserve a tip, not yours.

So, get the food right, clean the place up, wipe the tables, create some atmosphere, give the place some TLC and finesse and passion, watch the negative reviews here plummet.

We'll be back, with much hope.

Thank Simon C

“Nothing special”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

I've always felt this place had pigmentosa all to be something really good but its not. There are never enough staff and its always been a bit got or miss for me.

Its a shame because it has character and is big enough to house a wedding party. As a local resident, I would like to see a change.

“Don't order the steak”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

My son and I ate at the Park View today, having recently moved into the area. The bar staff were friendly and efficient, but the food left a bit to be desired.

I ordered the 21 day aged rib-eye steak with fries, baked tomato & watercress (£16.00) and added Bearnaise sauce which was a £2 supplement (which seemed a bit of a cheek). I asked for the steak to be cooked medium/rare, but it arrived overcooked to medium/well done and was tough as old boots - it certainly didn't seem to be good quality aged beef, as billed. The steak was served with a limp pile of dry leaves (not watercress), absent of any dressing, and no salad dressings were offered. The Bearnaise was dire - the worst I've ever had. It looked and tasted like Bird's custard with some tarragon added for authenticity. It could very well have been a packet mix, but was inedible and tasted nothing like a real Bearnaise. If you're going to charge a supplement for a sauce, then the chef should know how to make it from scratch and should taste it before sending it out. This was not a meal worth £18.00.

My son's meal of Southern-fried chicken (£11.00) was much better, but it was quite a bit cheaper than the steak course, which was the priciest main on the menu.

Not sure I'll be returning for food.
