“Good atmosphere”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Went on Friday 21st June having been told that the Ginger Pig is excellent, but we decided to try the Ginger Dog I believe it's the most recently opened. I would say in general the food was very good. I had a cod carpaccio as a starter and although there wasn't a lot of flavour to the fish, the trimmings with tomatoes had a really intense flavour which almost took your breath away, and was very different.. In all we enjoyed the meal and found the service to be very slick and friendly bearing in mind how busy they were. The two of us had 3 courses, a glass of Prosseco, a carafe of wine and two coffees for £87, so not cheap but reasonable value for money with the quality of the food. I would go again based on this experience and will probably try one of the others in the group which are all in the Brighton area

“An excellent meal”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

We chose it from the Good Food Guide and as usual, were not disappointed. Once what might well have been a pretty ordinary pub, it is now a good, perhaps quirky, restaurant in a pretty ordinary-looking building. The waiting staff seem to know what they are doing and they were very welcoming. Perhaps more importantly, the people in the kitchen definitely know what they are doing. An enjoyable evening. What looked, at first sight, like a bottle of posh olive oil on the table turned out to be local rape seed oil - a very nice touch. Yes, it's good.

“Oh dear what has happened?...........”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

As massive fan of the Ginger chain of venues, we were amazed at what must be our worst experience recently.
We attended a per-booking for a large group with a set menu in a private room. However there was nowhere near enough room for each place setting, which didn't get things off to a great start.
With a choice of fish or steak, the majority chose steak.
The quality in general wasn't very good and a number of people gave up the struggle with their steaks politely (including us).
Given the prices are comparable with the likes of the Hotel Du Vin, it really has slipped in my estimations unfortunately.
I would go back and try the Ginger Pig, but will probably avoid this venue again with so many better options in town!

“Disappointing”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

The atmosphere of the place is a little overdone and despite the deep red colour still feels cold, and the tables feel way too close to each other to enjoy conversation.
The starters were really good. However, the main meals were completely disappointing. We had to send back a steak 3 times to get it cooked to well done that had been very specifically requested - no pink. After the steak came back for a third time, it was near enough right, but the chips miraculously were undercooked in the middle. The pork belly was nice but nothing special. When it came time to paying, there was no attempt to try and make amends with refund or even any acknowledgment of the problems.
Overall, super disappointed for a restaurant I thought would be great. I wouldn't recommend to anyone, but if you're willing to try, you never know. Could be good, could be bad.

“Fab food, retro building!”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

Another great restaurant part of the Gingers group. Set alone in the countryside just off the Henfield road. Great food, good service, lovely - knowledgeable staff. Ever changing menus, great wine list . Great place for Sunday lunch with family and friends.
