We visited about 8pm on Christmas eve having finished our shopping and preparations for the following day.

We were warmly greeted and welcomed by Tookta and her husband who sat us down at the kitchen end and filled our table with Thai prawn crackers and drinks, Chang for the adults, fanta for the kids.

We took pretty much everything on the starter menu, Prawn toast, Prawn tempura, Vegetables Spring rolls, Vegetables tempura, Thai fish cakes, Garlic chilli squid and Garlic Chilli prawn. The deep fried dishes were hot, crisp and well salted, the chilli garlic dishes were piquant but didn't mask either the texture or flavour of squid or prawn.

Main dishes were a chicken pad thai, beef with holy basil (extra hot), beef with oyster sauce and spring onion and a thai green curry, all except the pad thai were served with egg fried rice. Everything was spot on salt balanced sweet, balanced sour, balanced savoury with a warming rather than fiery heat (unless requested to come hotter, either at ordering or with chilli oil on the side). Noodles were soft and the rice was light and fluffy.

A few more beers, soft drinks and pots of jasmine tea left us comfortably full and ready to face the cold night both sated and delighted.

Service is as friendly as can be and pretty fast and attentive too.

We've eaten here before and everything has been consistently great, when the odd blip arrives - full house + busy kitchen = wrong order type thing - its been fixed immediately.

Couldn't reasonably hope for a more friendly, homely, welcoming environment or value.

The place is tiny and popular so is often full, because of the limited space anyone showing up late or not making their reservation causes them problems. We tend to just turn up or ring 30 minutes before we want to eat. If we can't get straight in then there are several decent pubs nearby (The Windmill (50m), The Hampton (100m), The Pull and Pump (100m), The Florist (150m)) that will pass the time.

They now take cards too.

It's actually like walking in to a friends house, a friend that is very good at cooking Thai food and accepts 'mates rates'. Nothing is too spicy, nothing is greasy. If you like Thai food, this is the place.

Nice little informal place to eat. Its not fine dinning and doesn't purport to be, its not quite a cafe either. Informal yes, and good VFM, food is serviced freshly cooked & prepared by the owner. It was a little bit cold in the restaurant which was the only negative, mind you, when we where there it was 6pm straight after shopping in town, and there were only 2 other tables occupied, a 2 and a 4. (It opens at 6).
For starters we shared the mixed tempura platter with a nice sweet chilli dipping sauce, which i loved, my partner said the batter was a little too heavy for her, but it was still good. then we shared a red Thai chicken curry (with red pepper, aubergine and fresh red chilli), this was a fab tasty hot dish, perfect for a cold night, and more than enough for 2 to share, with fresh sticky rice, washed down with a Thai beer and a glass of wine. On asking for the bill, the lady owner-come-chef, such a sweet funny Thai lady, came out front of house and we had a lovely chat. We will definitely go back. Bill for 2 exc service (discretionary) £23, cant get much better than that.
