“Looks great but fails to deliver”

On arrival we were quite impressed with the grandeur of the building however when we went to restaurant for dinner we were stunned by the buffet it was reminiscent of a bad school canteen with an hors d'oeurves selection consisting of 2 undressed and dried out salads and some fillets of smoked mackeral the main courses consisted of a cumberland sausage ring in an insipid lookin gravy , deep fried fillet of plaice (crisp hard and dried out looking and a "steak"and ale casserole that resembled something I may give to a dog rather than a human desserts were either a fruit trifle or a black forest gateaux and the cheese board consisted of a selection of plastic proportioned pieces of cheddar or red leicster? Although this offering wad included in the deal we had to purchased the hotel proudly advertised this for sale at £9.95 needless to say we voted with our feet and ate out . However the breakfast offering was much better with a reasonable selection of hot and cold items well cooked and presented although the croissants were very dry and hard because of the heat of the buffet

I took my sister and friend in July to celebrate their birthdays ,after weeks and endless phone calls to brittania group and to Ireland , also to the Manager of the hotel ,they eventually confirmed my booking .I was advised by the Manager that I would get a triple executive suite
We had very suspect stains on the carpet and furniture the carpet was also torn and ahd been stuck down with gaffer tape the bathroom was so filthy ,no one had cleaned along the shower screen for years, Bedding &,towels were clean .Breakfast was very good lots of choice
This was a shame as it was once a great hotel in a fantastic location ,we had room facing sea
at £175.00 per night not good value

Room Tip: view was superb especially if you like people watching ,although on a main road it did quieten down...

Rooms were very old, run down, dirty, cold and most appliances barely worked. The entire hotel inside was also run down. What a shame, such a beautiful location but terribly kept hotel. PLEASE RENOVATE!!!

Location - This Hotel is in an excellent location right on the sea front by the pier. Easy walking access to everything.

Room - Oh dear. The hotel is relatively inexpensive (considering the location) but I did not expect the room to be so run down. The bedside lights didn't work, The TV didn't work. The kettle lid was broken. The wardrobe didn't shut. The room was dirty and had a uncomfortable feel about it. The room temperature was sweltering. There is a Nightclub attached to the hotel that played booming music until 2 o'clock in the morning. I could not even block this noise out with my Ipod.

If you are going to go out till after 2am in the morning and possibly get so drunk you don't care where you sleep this is the perfect hotel. If you want a bit of comfort, I would choose somewhere else.

The Royal Albion is a bit rough, but if you've already bought your Groupon and there's no getting out if it here's how to make the best of it:

1. Don't have the buffet dinner

If you have the free buffet dinner do not go with high expectations of a tasty or romantic meal. The buffet is in a big, very brightly lit room with a choice of unappetising chilli or old, dried out fish and chips. If you are staying with your partner I would cut your losses and eat somewhere else, otherwise the bread rolls are fresh and the chips are okay so make yourself a chip buttie.

2. Upgrade your room

After reading the other reviews about the horrible basement rooms we upgraded to a deluxe, sea view room (301) which was a good move. It smelled a bit funny like an old people's home but it was nice and spacious, the bed comfy and it wasn't too noisy. We even had two spare pillows. The shower kept alternating between boiling hot and freezing cold and but at least it was powerful and fairly clean.

3. Don't look at the decor too closely

It definitely needs a refurb and could have done with a Hoover.

4. Choose your breakfast wisely

The breakfast is better than the buffet dinner but watch out for the stale toast, powdered scrambled eggs and dodgy sausages. I would steer clear of the full english as nothing is the best quality and either order poached eggs from the waiters of have some of the porridge which was surprisingly nice.

5. Don't be alarmed by the other guests

On the saturday night there were a lot of drunk guests either being rowdy or fast asleep in the hotel bar. There was even a young woman in the downstairs toilets completely naked from the waist down washing her bum in the sink. The Ritz this is not.

As you can tell, this is not a luxurious hotel but in a funny way the old style decor and lack of any mod cons is strangely comforting. It reminded me of being a kid in the 80s. I definitely would not recommend it but it was an interesting place to stay and you won't have a terrible time.

Room Tip: 301 had a nice sea view and a comfy bed.

Can't write much except that as soon as I walked into the very tired and worn reception my heart sank. I was asked to pre pay £303.00 for a 2 night stay in an executive room with a sea view. After walking through the hotel on threadbare dirty carpet I found my room. To be honest it looked like a squat. The wall paper was peeling off the walls the carpet was stained and filthy, the windows were rotten and patched together & the bed was more like a camp bed than an executive double. I walked straight out and after a bit of a discussion with the receptionist received the full refund I demanded. The pictures and description on the hotel website are misleading and about 30 years out of date. If you should decide to stay here I would strongly advise asking to see your room before checking in and having a plan "B" for somewhere else to stay.

Room Tip: Book one at the beautiful Seattle at the marina for the same price.

Stayed for a night room 509 , comfy bed was the best thing about the room. It had a small window and a tiny tv that was too low on a stand to watch from in bed, would of been better to have it on the wall. We got very little sleep as room next door made a ridiculous amount of noise till 6 in the morning. I rang reception 3 times and although they said it was getting sorted it did not improve. I think it was not worth the £130 for a night and not even breakfast included
