“'We have cancelled your booking!'”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

I pre-booked 1 nights stay at this hotel due to watching the Brighton Marathon, I booked this room 9 months inadvance! I booked an 'Executive Double Room with Sea View - What I recieved what not this room!

I arrived to check in, to be told the party I had been booked with had already arrived and taken our room! I was shocked to this statement as out booking CLEARLY stated 2 persons booking. So this other couple had basically taken our room. The only room they had available was a small box room with 2 single beds, which had a broken radiator which was so hot you could not touch the thing, the window was below ground level so let in no light and could not be opened!
The bathroom smelt of damp and the floor 'squished' when walked on due to the amount of water that had soaked under the floor!
The room was the size of a cupboard!

The gentleman on check in was very unhelpful and basically said he did not do the mistake so he is not to blame, that I should speak to a Manager in the morning. But I should be grateful they have a room to give us as our booking on the system had been cancelled.

I spoke to the manager when checkign out. I was shocked by the attitude of the manager - not to me but to her staff!! wow!!!
She barked at the women to look into the issue. The issue was confirmed and I was offered 10% refund, or write a letter to management. The manager was short spoken and seemed to not be shocked by what had happened! She was not apologietic it was 'do you want the 10% refund or not!'

It was a terrible nights stay!! - I would NEVER stay in this hotel ever again!!!

We recently stayed here as a family of 4 as part of a Rugby Tour. The room was big enough but so dirty, the carpet was disgusting with nasty marks everywhere. A big nasty black mould spot near to the bathroom door showed where the Bath had leaked and the bottom of the doorframe was rotted. There was 1 towel for a family of 4. we had to ask twice for new towels and then had to collect from Reception ourselves. The spa bath didn't work. To get to our room was like walking thorough a long maze and we didn't feel comfortable allowing the children to be in the room on their own.The corridor was dirty and needed lots of TLC as well as a good hoovering. The beds were comfy though and the sheets were clean.
The room that we were given was a basement room and the view out of the window was a dirty wall and steps. There was lots of noise at night and screaming outside the window which left us feeling uncomfortable, especially with the kids. The curtains didn't cover the windows and so we were concerned that people were watching us.
The bar was really expensive and many people seemed to be going to Sainsbury's and bringing back bottles of drink to consume in their room. The bar staff were good and happy to serve.
Breakfast was good, plenty of it and hot, although we had a problem finding a table to sit on due to the numbers in the restaurant.

The location was fantastic, literally right on the seafront. If this hotel was given just a little bit of TLC and a bit of an upgrade then it would be absolutely fab. I cannot understand why such a central hotel has been left to fall into such poor state. Such a shame.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor or you will be in the basement and be disturbed by the nightclub n...

stayed in a family room here for one night with our 6 yr old had a 2 storey room with a balcony type floor with single beds our daughter found this fun at first but come sleep time she wanted to be sleeping nearer mum and dad being a strange environment to her. You can tell its an old place carpet in our room stuck down with duct tape, duvet was thick and heavy, sign on the wall next to the really old air con control panel saying do not use air con! mattress was naff too! not enough sugar and tea bags in room either take your own towels the ones provided are just about big enough for a six year old! breakfast looked nice good selection but terrible quality the sausages and bacon were revolting! Was disappointed to find the view out of our room was the side of a building and the air conditioning units was hoping for a decent view especially as we were staying right on the seafront overall disappointing really won't come again.

We recently stayed at this hotel and booked independently, not via a coach trip as many of the guests at the hotel seem to be on. The location of the hotel is great, straight across the road from the sea front and Brighton Pier. The hotel is very dated, reception was ok not very big for the volume of people that were passing through. There is only 1 lift for the whole hotel, and people were waiting a long time. We were on the 3rd floor and never used the lift, the carpet on the stairs could do with replacing it was very threadbare in parts, windows extremely dirty on the way up as well. We had paid extra for a sea view superior room (ha,ha) Our room was quite small but did have a good view of the front, as mentioned is very dated and old fashioned but the room was clean. The bathroom was very basic, no toilet roll holder and no towel rail. There were holes in the bathroom wall where the toilet roll holder had once lived :) Breakfast on the first day was a real free for all, there were no tables available so people were taking it upon themselves to set up tables in the nightclub. The breakfast was ok, not a great choice, the 2nd day wasn't so bad and we managed to get a table easily. Reception staff and the bar staff not overly friendly. I think we paid well over the odds for this hotel, and I imagine if staying there on one of the coach trips which are very good value you would probably be ok with what you get. It was our first time to Brighton which we thought was a great place and we will go back, but certainly won't be staying at the Royal Albion again!!!

We stayed at this hotel recently on a package coach tour and from reading the previous reviews weren't expecting much. However, we were pleasantly surprised, it certainly 'aint The Ritz but you gets what you pays for! The hotel is in a fabulous location, central for everything and just across the road from the Pier. There are bus stops just over the road and the shops and town centre are a short stroll away. Admittedly the hotel has a rather 'tired' feeling but the rooms were spacious, everything was clean and tidy and the food, breakfast and dinner, was excellent - self service with a varied choice daily. We found the staff to be very polite and helpful. If one really wanted to nitpick there were a couple of odd things that could be complained about, for instance one or two of the armchairs in the lounge had holes in the armrests but hey, they were still comfy and the view across to the pier and the prom was fabulous. So all in all my wife and I were very pleased with this hotel and would stay there again.

We chose this hotel primarily for it's location and for the fact that it would allow us to take our dog. Our room was in the basement, so our view of a brick wall was the best we could hope for.

Having said that, our room was clean (aside from the odd old stains on the carpet) and comfortable, although no additional provision was made for our pet, despite the hotel being advertised on "dog friendly" websites.

Breakfast was ok, the usual buffet affair, a little dry but a good selection.

Service was friendly and the staff pleasant at all times.Overall, for the price we paid, not bad value at all.

Room Tip: Don't allow them to give you a room on the lower ground floor.
