We had the pleasure of spending a few nights in this beautiful gracious old hotel property. It is immediately across the street from the beach in Brighton and provides lovely sea views. The hotel is currently being refurbished. We stayed in one of the original rooms which was large and comfortable. Although I understand why the management would like to update the decor, the room as was, was beautifully furnished with a most comfortable bed, feather pillows and cozy duvets. The lighting was thoughtfully designed to give good coverage with multiple choices and wall plugs were at a useable level and where you needed them to be for kettle, hair appliances and computer leads. The room included an ironing board and iron, terry robes, tea and coffee equipment and a fridge with cooled bottles of water in place when we arrived. The most impressive part of stay was the staff. They are clearly well trained and effective. They anticipated our requirements and were unfailingly polite, cheerful and capable. Although the hotel was undergoing work while we were there, if you hadn't been told, you would not have noticed. The redecoration made no impact on our enjoyment of the hotel. Close to the beach and an inviting walkable downtown, we have already decided that we will be returning. A most enjoyable treat!

Room Tip: In order to access our room we had to climb three steps toward the end of the hall. Staff were available to carry bags and help with strollers but if you need disabled access or are travelling with strollers mention this when you book in order to get a convenient room.with access.

Thank you for your kind comments and I am pleased that you had a pleasant experience at The Grand.

Your complimentary feedback relating to the hotel’s historic features and classic style is greatly appreciated. As you discussed, we are undergoing a refurbishment, where we will be updating and refreshing décor and guest room facilities. We feel that the refurbishment programme should aim to enhance, rather than moving towards an ultra-modernistic feel, so classic and traditional features will be maintained.

I am glad you found our location to be an ideal base in which to explore Brighton and I am pleased to read that you have already planned to return.

Thanks again for writing.

What a lovely stay we had in this hotel. The staff are very attentive and friendly and helpful. We arrived on a Sunday night at around 7pm and wanted to use the valet service. However we were told that there was no spaces left and the porter kindly gave us directions to the closest NCP carpark allowing us to go and check in and take our luggage upstairs too. We chatted with the porter in the lift who kindly put our bags on a trolley and took them to our room. What a lovely guy he was. The receptionist was very friendly at check in also. The breakfast was served until 10am and it was a great choice and lovely food. The room we had was nice and big and a nice big bath to soak in at the end of a long day. 3 adults could have easily fit in the bed! It was lush! The toiletries in the room are of a good quality and my daughter loved the hot chocolate! Complimentary bottled water in the little mini fridge. Breakfast on the 2nd morning was even nicer and what a choice. Continental, full english, cereal, fruit, fresh french stick, muffins, belgian pastries all delicious. Everything was being filled as soon as it was empty. We had to queue a while on the Tuesday morning but it was worth the wait. The only thing was that the room was a little bit warm for my liking but i did hear someone at check in on the morning we were leaving asking if the heating could be turned off in their room maybe i should have tried that. we had room 629 which was on the corner of the hotel so we did have a little bit of a sea view but i would ask for a sea view if i stayed again. It was a bit noisy to leave the window open for the traffic but im a person who needs silence to sleep and you cant always get that if you stay in a hotel. However our room was in a very quiet area in fact we never saw another guest in the corridor area. The restaurant staff were good too. The hotel is a bit dated and the pool and sauna are closed until Jan 2013.

Thank you for taking the time to review The Grand on TA.

I was delighted to hear that you had such an enjoyable stay with us and I appreciate all you kind comments relating to the staff and service received. I have made certain to pass on your feedback with a special note to concierge, reception and the breakfast team.

I am pleased you enjoyed your room and appreciated the in-room features and special touches. I never tire of hearing great feedback on our breakfast offering. It is so greatly received and our kitchen team do such a fantastic job.

As you hinted upon, the hotel is undergoing some updates. We are opening a luxury spa next April. This will specialise in treatments, wellbeing and relaxation. We will also be renovating the bar this year and a new restaurant will open in February 2013.

We hope to welcome you back again in the New Year where you can enjoy the new Grand, Brighton.

We arrived before our room was ready, which we expected as we arrived during the morning. Our case was taken to our room and we were allowed access to it even though the room not quite ready: good service. All the staff we came across were pleasant, helpful and friendly.

We had Sunday lunch which was delicious with excellent service, and service in the bar later on was excellent. Breakfast was delicious too, with plenty of choice and quick service.

Our room needed a paint touch up but otherwise was very clean, with a very comfortable bed.

We felt the price was very reasonable considering the hotel's location and the quality,of the food and service.

Thank you for your recent review.

I was delighted to read that you had an enjoyable stay with us and that you found the team to be helpful and friendly.

Your kind words relating to our “famous breakfast” are greatly received. All of our guests have breakfast included, so there is a lot of work and dedication that goes into offering an abundance of quality choices suitable for all.

As you may be aware, we are undergoing refurbishment at the moment so those areas that do need a refresh are being addressed. We do hope you decide to return next year, where you can see the full extent of the improvements and new features.

Thanks again for writing.

We really enjoyed our brief stay here. A warm and helpful initial welcome from the staff was a good start and even though our room was not quite ready, we were offered complimentary drinks in the lounge/bar area. The decor is classical as you would expect from The Grand but that is part of it`s charm. Our room was however modern although without a sea view - not really a problem bearing in mind the weather and time of year. Comfy bed, room size adequate, well furnished and clean. Very nice breakfast with huge choice. For our evening meal, we decided to eat out as we wanted to explore the area and thought the hotel restaurant would be lacking in atmosphere but on our return, it looked busy and so maybe worth a try. The hotel is in a great position only 10 minutes walk to the Lanes or the main shopping street and 2 minutes to the shopping centre. For a stay at a beautiful hotel with good old-fashioned service (from staff who seemed to know what they were doing and did it with a smile) you should try the Grand. We will return !

Room Tip: Decide whether you want sea view room or not when booking

This was our third visit to The Grand. The service from arrival to departure was fantastic. There were always plenty of staff at hand to look after our every need. We were given a room upgrade on arrival, which was most welcome, to a deluxe sea view room. The Grand is a beautiful Victorian hotel with period features and is currently undergoing some refurbishment. Some of the decoration and furniture in bedrooms and common areas could be considered a little shabby but I feel that 's really part of the character. The rooms are impeccably clean and the beds extremely comfortable. Breakfast is varied and of a very high quality. We look forward to returning soon. Please keep in mind that Brighton is a city and therefore the traffic and people passing the hotel at night can be quite noisy.

Room Tip: Well worth paying a little more or a sea view.

Thank you for your kind feedback further to your recent stay at The Grand.

Firstly thank you for your loyal custom and I am pleased you had another enjoyable experience with us. There are occasions where we can offer room upgrades, so I am glad that you had the opportunity to stay in one of our sea facing bedrooms.

As you mentioned, we are currently undergoing a refurbishment. I agree, we are very fortunate to have some beautiful Victorian features, so updates will follow classic meets contemporary designs aiming to enhance the hotel’s old school glamour. Many bedrooms are complete and if you do plan a visit in December you can enjoy our newly refurbished bar, lounge and terrace.

We do hope to welcome you back again for your fourth visit very soon.
