This was by far the most delicious Indian food I have ever eaten...very authentic within a wonderful comfy setting :-) Excellent value for money. I had the Dhai Bhel Puri as recommended by many and it did not disappoint...you should try it :-) Order too much so you can take it home and eat it all over again the next day!

Conveniently located opposite the North Laines Brewery in a parade of shops lies the little gem that is Planet India. We booked a table for 8 people, only 1 of which is a veggie. The food was amazing. You have to try the Dhai Bhel Puri. I couldn't stop eating it. We had a great selection of food recommended by the proprietor, so we could sit back, chat and be waited upon. Every dish was fantastic. Every single mouthful was eaten! Service was great, it's like being in someone's front room. Plus excellent value, beer, wine and 8 full stomachs later and it came to £120. £15 a head. Most definitely going back, I feel bad I didn't get the guys name as he was wonderful. He even gave us a free beer. A perfect meal. The next visitors we have will be frogmarched there.

Amazing place in the unlikliest of surroundings, now conveniently opposite the new North Laines Brewery and near the fabulous Hobgoblin. Makes for a perfect night out!

Brighton has experienced many changes since I moved here in the 70's: it's morphed from a scruffy artists' town into a (still scruffy) bursting-at-the seams city. Planet India embodies the soul of bohemian Brighton, evoking the days when eating at a restaurant was like hanging out in a friend's front room, where the owners were quite cool about serving you water instead of wine.

Planet India serves vegetarian homemade food which has a distinctly home-made vibe. The tatty paper menu lists a relatively small number of dishes, but each one is superb, arriving in an big bowl with a spoon. You can order two half portions, a good option as the servings are more than generous. The rice is delicious, seasoned with cumin. The prices are incredibly reasonable, and nobody tries to sell up. There are no desserts, unfortunately, but the drinks list is quirky, with lots of interesting bottled beers.

At Planet India a statue of Bob Marley's head smokes a spliff in the corner. A motto on the bill declares: In Bob We Trust. Tiny framed photos adorn the walls; magenta sari silk cascades from the ceiling. Planet India is always packed, even when neighbouring restaurants are empty. If you want to experience the soul of Brighton, be sure to book!

I love this place, its a family run veggie place where the food is just delicious. I really recommend their Dhel bel puri starter which is superb and makes my mouth water when i think about it. If your not sure what to have ask the waiter/ owner who will be happy to give you advice. Ive tried most things and my favourite is the Mumbai potato curry, creamy, spicy and very tasty. I also really like their beer selection where they get beers in from all over th world, even from a lovely scottish microbrewery (William Bros) which do some of the nicest lagers ive ever tasted (try caesar augustus!). All in all, quirky one off, thats affordable and special.
