Spent two nights at the Kempfield in the Hanover room. We were upgraded for free as we were staying there the whole weekend. It was nice room, spacey with high ceilings. All the things that you need, kettle, iron and a mini ironing board, TV/DVD player. In addition there was a fridge and a one serving bottle of white and red wine which were rather nice. Also a coke and diet coke. There was also a fan and an alarm clock.
The bed was huge! Bigger than a kingsize and very comfortable. There was lots of drawer space if you were staying long enough to unpack fully. Not many plug sockets though.
The rooms were very clean, and the bathroom was very nicely decorated. (Please see pictures). Our room looked out onto the front of the building.
I have to say that if you are bothered by noise at night this might not be the right place for you as there are a lot of pubs and bars near by that play loud music into the early hours, however this did not affect my boyfriend or myself. The comfy bed made up for it.
There are no lifts in this hotel but there are rooms on the ground floor, there are about ten steps to climb to get into the building though.
Parking is a bit of an issue, there is parking spaces available outside but you'd be very lucky to get one. We ended up parking about a ten min walk away. The hotel can provide a parking permit for £6 which lasts for 24 hours and it seems that most streets local to the hotel are free parking on a sunday.
Breakfast was good, don't let the smell of grease put you off, it tasted nicer than it smelt. Good supply of fruit, fruit juice, cereals, tea and coffee that you help yourself to.
So if you don't mind the noise and the lack of parking you may a trip here enjoyable. It was pleasant enough, nothing outstanding but then you don't get very much for your money in brighton hotels!

If you are looking for somewhere central to stay in brighton and dont really care about the quality of rooms then this is the spot. I got transferred to this hotel from their sister hotel, lichfield house, and to say it was an improvement is not even doing it justice lichfield house was that bad!!
The rooms are OK.. We had a twin room and the size was fine, bathroom is very small, but it was tidy and TV worked!
Didnt think the breakfast was great.
Would go back and stay in this hotel if i was guaranteed a similiar room, but you really have to be insistent on booking that you get the room you want as i overheard people complaining to the staff on the saturday morning that the room types were not correct.

I really dislike having to write reviews when half of it is going to be great this, excellent that then the other half is, hated this and hated that. For me this hotel comes exactly into this category. For a start you have no idea how bad the parking was, just a complete nightmare which would stop me from going again full stop. Motorist’s need somewhere nearby to park. Anybody who doesn’t acknowledge this is simply deluded. It appeared that the whole of Brighton has cars circling around the one-way streets looking desperately for somewhere just to park. You certainly have to bare this in mind if your going to use Kempfield regardless of anything you will be told.
Next the room, it was so small I nearly cried. Certainly for two average adults it was simply the smallest room I’ve experienced even compared to Paris (famous for the small room) The shower was no tardis either, more of an upended toblerone carton!!! Figure that one out yourself. (hint it has a foldy door)
The bed mattress we slept on was absolutely awful. Springs were thrusting through all over and it was like concrete. I reckon it was just too old and worn out. Time for a change Kempfield! My sink was blocked for three days!!!
There was a considerable noise problem from the street, if your rooms on the front don’t expect much sleep, (especially on our mattress) I know it’s a central location so you should expect some activity really but this was very bad, just so you know what to expect. Don’t think the single glazed windows help much either.
Good stuff at last -
The service was really superb, that’s the main reason I find it so hard to write this review. The breakfast was well presented and its all very homely, very b&b and personal. Not commercial at all.
The location I thought was excellent, a short walk to anything that matters.
With that in mind will you go or not???? I would say no but with a heavy heart because I want it to be better. The service and the location are really great. Fix the other issues for me and it would certainly be a winner! Sorry Kempfield but thats how it is.
Top tip and tours - do the Pavilion it’s quite amazing inside, if not a bit startling outside.
The chalk cliffs at Cuckmere Haven (The Seven Sisters) are quite beautiful. Parking is at the Seven Sisters car park and very reasonably priced. Best view is to the right of the bay, head towards the coastguard cottages. Look to the left – wow eh!

Spent a week here with my 3 year old son. Room was a good size, clean and well equiped (flat screen TV/DVD and fridge for milk and beer!), the two small bottles of complimentary wine and bottle opener/corkscrew were nice touches, as was the free internet access. Staff were all very nice, breakfasts good with plebty of individual choice, and the location great for a stroll into twon centre, or some good shops, pubs and eating places at top of road. I had my car (parking permits £6 for 24 hours in the 'C' zone) and finding a space could be a pain, but that is not the hotels fault and is normal for Brighton in any case. My best tip would be to boook via the hotel groups own website as you can see the individual roooms first and decide which one is best in terms of size, style and location (i.e., it was useful only being on the 1st floor with a young child as there is no lift).

Myself and 5 friends stayed here for 2 nights for a hen weekend. The rooms are nicely decorated but very small. We stayed in the Marlborough room on the top floor and had to walk up 7 flights of stairs - there was no lift and the the higher you go the lower the ceilings become.
The room itself was very small and didn't have alot of wardrobe space, nor did it have a 'proper' area for girls to get ready - no dressing table or mirror but we managed. The bathroom was absolutely tiny and the shower took a long time to go from freezing cold to boiling hot and then to the desired temperatue. There was no shelf space to put toiletries either. The toilet needed to be flushed at least twice to get rid of the smallest amount of tissue and then made noises at random intervals which sounded like it was going to throw back whatever it was you tried to get rid of.
The room was also excrutiatingly hot and so we left the window open but were then subject to what sounded like the whole of Brighton walking past throughout the night (possibly due to the pub at one end of the street and the nighclub at the other). A man had his bike stolen from in front of him and there was also some criminal damage to go with it in the street where the B & B was - a little frightening to say the least especially as this happened in broad daylight!
The breakfast was ok although the sausages were the worst I have ever tasted and the milk was off on the second day - we were told this was because it was organic and had just been defrosted?!?!?! The complimentary mini bar consisted of a can of normal and a can of diet coke, a miniture bottle of red wine, another of white wine and two bottles of water - all of which were just left on the side so were lovely and warm and the wine was vile!
The B & B is located just to the left of the pier and so if you're going for the nightlife then be prepared to walk or get a taxi to it.
The staff were friendly and very helpful but if I was to stay in Brighton again it wouldn't be here - not a very comfortable stay in the slightest.....

Recently stayed here with my girlfriend for 2 nights.
Though prices were higher because it was bank holiday, we fully expected this.
We checked in at 13.00 and room was ready. We had chocolates on the bed, coke, wine and water in the fridge which we thought was a very nice gesture.
Hotel is in a perfect location, literally 2 minutes from the beachfront. We stayed in the ''Withdean room'' - and could see the pier from our wnidow.
Breakfast was included in the rate, this we found there to be a great choice, hot and cold.
