There were 5 of us. We ordered 2 starters between us to pick at. A small dish of prawns, priced just under £10 arrived. We tried the prawns. They honestly tasted like they'd been cooked, frozen then over-recooked. Felt like I was chewing on rubber. Truly disgusting and unacceptable.

When the waiter arrived back at the table, we made it clear that we didn't enjoy the prawns and didn't feel comfortable paying almost £10 for them. He immediately became confrontational stating that 'we ate them' so we should pay. He couldn't quite grasp that we had to eat them to try them - there were only 3 prawns in a party of 5 after all! We explained that we were only giving him feedback and that feedback is a good thing. This didn't interest him and he continued to be confrontational; it almost became a heated argument. He just didn't get it!

When he walked away, we just wanted to get out of there. We cancelled our pizzas (which were actually ready and waiting to be served) and asked for the bill. We weren't charged for the prawns.

Very sad really as all we wanted to do was give him feedback and re-negotiate a price for the very poor prawns. I've never seen a waiter act that way - ever!

Instead, we went to Oregano around the corner and had some cracking wood fired pizzas.

Visited this establishment twice last year whilst on holiday and thoroughly enjoyed it, but when we went again this year we felt a little disappointed. We ordered the garlic mushroom starter, but when it arrived their was only one, we explained that we had ordered a starter each, the waitress took it away and returned a few minutes later with 2 dishes. One was the first that had arrived it was almost cold and the mushroom juices had soaked into the lettuce making it soggy and grey. We were not offered any bread with our starter like last year even though we were paying almost £12 for them. The main courses were very nice and we enjoyed them. The staff seemed very casual and did not speak very good English (or Italian), causing confusion and there was no friendly family atmosphere there had been on previous occasions. Felt a little let down, especially since we had such a good experience previously.

Second time here and again a very enjoyable experience. Food, service was absolutely spot on. Both my dishes were very tasty and portion size didn't leave me looking for more. Will make it a regular I think on subsequent trips to Brighton. Would be nice if they could change the 'house red' to something a little smoother, but other than that 10/10.

Discovered this little gem on a last evening in Brighton. Small and discrete with genuine Italian owner. A maximum of ten small tables and authentic atmosphere. Had Bruschetta as a starter, Linguine with Salmon and in a delicious sauce for the main course. Tiramisu for dessert and a Mocha coffee to end a first class meal. I should mention I also drank a small carafe of house wine which was more than satisfactory. The whole meal cost £31 and was the best meal eaten during my four week vacation in the UK. What a shame this was my last evening in Brighton.
