“Fun and funky - love it!”

I was very pleased when I saw our room. We stayed in Room 1, the Sewell room and it was decorated with an alpine-style theme around the walls in amazing colours. The bathroom was styled like a camper-van. It was really great. On arrival, and throughout our stay, the staff were very warm and welcoming. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel provides nice shower gel and conditioning shampoo. The area of the hotel is great too. It is located almost opposite the old West Pier so it's very easy to get everywhere from there.

On the downside, we were expecting a croissant, yoghurt, piece of fruit and juice for breakfast. Everything came apart from the croissant, so we rang reception to order some toast instead to be delivered to our room. We were told it would be organised, but it never arrived, and when we enquired about it later, were told they don't do room service. This is fine, but I would like to have been advised this at the first instance, instead of waiting around in the room for it to arrive. Apart from this, there weren't any downsides to this hotel.

Room Tip: Loved Room 1, the Sewell Room. It was decorated in an alpine-style theme with mountains, & a li...

Liked that the rooms are all individually decorated with wonderful artwork. So could go back and stay in a different room with a very different feel about it. We booked 'Alice' that had a lovely comfy bed and a brilliant shower/plunge bath. Breakfast in a bag, delivered to the room, was unique, and healthier than a full English! (contained orange juice, croissant, yoghurt and an apple). Staff are young and very friendly and welcoming. Would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for reasonably priced accommodation close to Brighton town centre and theatres.

loved the AR. everything was great. 2 minus points we were top floor no elevator, so limited mobility folks need to make sure they get a lower floor, also the water pressure was lacking. That said I would happily stay at AR again, it is the coolest little B&B in town.

The Artist Residence is a clever blend of the highly creative and the unpretentious. Comfort and location are excellent. Residence staff are friendly and helpful to guests and make a traveler's stay in Brighton very easy. A fresh croissant and cup of yogurt with breakfast each morning was a welcome sign to each morning. Many thank for the hospitality. We will certainly return next year.

Stayed one night with our two boys last July. The hotel was very clean, staff very friendly and the room - although quite noisy as it was the first room close to the main entrance was very cool indeed. Room was decorated with all sorts of sculptures, paintings, furniture - very eclectic but the kids and parents loved it. Breakfast was included and came in a nice little bag to carry along - fruits, yogurt, muffin - very healthy stuff. Down the street was a nice pub and other restaurants and right across was Brighton's pebble beach. The rest of Brighton was not necessarily worth the trip - and the Royal Pavilion is overrated.

A lovely sunny couple of days in Brighton. Never been before, and loved the place. The room had a beautiful aspect. A fantastic floor to ceiling sash window, with a great sea view.
The fact that the room was also a canvas for superb original artwork helped make the stay unforgettable.
The only slight problem was that we had to go and find somewhere to have another breakfast after the rather meagre fayre delivered to our room in the bag in the morning. Although the ingredients were perfectly acceptable, a bit of butter and jam, some fresh milk and some real coffee would have made all the difference.
