“Kemp Townhouse. A real treat”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

We attended a wedding in Brighton and we were lucky enough to stay in this wonderful bijou hotel with some of our family and friends. From the start we were made to feel we were at an amazing house party. The atmosphere was extremely convivial from the warm welcome given by Paul who could not have been more helpful. The rooms were elegantly appointed and our bedroom 201 particularly lovely. The bed and bed linen were lovely and the attention to detail in the decanter of port was a lovely touch.
Breakfast was a treat and I can understand how they have won awards for this. Food was beautifully presented with a very wide range of choices.
Although we like to try out new places to stay when we travel, we will come back to the lovely Kemp Townhouse again.

Room Tip: Bedrooms at the front with a side sea view 201 and 301

we stayed here for 2 nights on the 5th and 6th Sept and its was excellent. The room was very well appointed and comfortable. The extra little touches like, complimentory port in the room, biscuits and mints were all considered to cater for all.
Breakfast menu was vast and once again catered for all tastes, from a full english to more delicate dishes, eggs benidict, american pancakes, bagels etc etc.
The staff were very polite and helpfull, could'nt do enough to make your stay enjoyable.
We will be booking again!

In Brighton on business (13th September)- the townhouse is a very smart b&b with nice decor.

I stayed in a Comfy King room (202 i think) which was fairly spacious with comfortable bed. The room was very homely but I think I would think twice about the full rate if I was a leisure traveller.

I would pay between £110 to £120 for this room.

The wet room was nicely decorated although some mould spots on ceiling and although very contemporary the sink was tiny (water from the tap overshot the basin) and drained very slowly.

Amenities were generally lovely - marshmallows, robes, shortbread, attentive staff during a late check in made the difference but the following general issues were present:

1) The general rule of no breakfast before 8 is not covenient for those on business. Having said that the staff who were available served it to me as swiftly as possible.
2) Tried to call the B&B from 6.30pm onwards to say I would be arriving late - no-one called me back to confirm this would not be a problem.
3) This may be asking a bit much but as a business traveller, if this accommodation had a communal guest lounge with bar it would make it easier to mix with the other guests in the evening.
4) The breakfast was delicious and varied but the clearly the plates are too small for the hearty breakfast.

Room Tip: 202 was a nice room - I hear some of the cheaper rooms have tiny facilities...but the price may appe...

Stayed one night as part of a business trip and was underwhelmed, particularly having read some of the other reviews.

The welcome was definitely warm, but so was the room, far too warm despite it not being hot outside (fans going all night as no air con). The room was really small (and they get smaller), and not at all set up for the business traveller (no real desk/work space). There were blinds on the windows but no curtains on top (a pet hate of mine). That aside the en-suite bathroom had a mouldy roof and a spotlight that wasn't working, apart from being impossibly small.

Like a number of other Brighton hotels, you won't get a cooked breakfast here before 8am which is a poor show in my view and only helpful if you're in no rush to get out in the morning / a tourist.

It was mainly clean, decent flatscreen tv, and quick checkout. But overall not sure I'd go back. Hotel du vin is still the one to beat in my view.

Having stayed here in 2011 I enjoyed the hotel but not the attitude of the owner, who was surly and rude to say the least, considering i'd just paid over £350 for a 2 night stay in Brighton...not great value at any stretch. Had he been here still this year I would have gone elsewhere.

However, having heard the hotel had been bought over I decided to give it another try and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were welcoming and helpful. My room was clean and quiet, exactly what I wanted. The wet room was small but very serviceable given the space. A general lick of paint wouldn't go amiss to freshen things up but that is a minor point.

The breakfast was included in the price and really superb. A decanter of port in the bedroom is a nice touch. A radio with ipod/iphone dock is supplied as is a wall mounted flat screen, both very useful but please invest in new towels. Thick fluffy white ones as would befit such a nice establishment.
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and extended for another night on Sunday. I will definitely be staying again next year along with my friends who visited me at the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms first floor and above are quieter.

We were welcomed warmly, Kemp Townhouse is a lovely building and start to finish our stay was faultless. 5 minute walk from the centre so its an ideal location, and over the road from the beach.
The comlimentary items were a great gesture (port, hot chocolate, marshmallows, home made biscuits etc) and luxury toiletries in the wet room. For breakfast you really are spoilt for choice. I had eggs royale and very much engoyed it, my partner had the full english.
Huge four poster bed, beautifully decorated and furnished I would highly recommend booking this hotel for you're trip to Brighton.

Stayed at Kemp Townhouse in April and was impressed by the high level of service. Rooms are modern and clean and the guesthouse has a great feel. In the afternoon we could help ourselves to complimentary cheese and wine and the breakfast(served in bed at no extra cost) was just superb! Moreover, there is a bottle of port waiting for you in the room if you need a night cap. Getting around from Kemp is also easy. There is just 1 regret - wish we stayed longer than 1 night!
