“In retrospect, I should've asked for a refund”

Pretty building, pleasant staff, decent drinks.... But then came the food. The menu is priced between £11-18 for mains, with a small selection of cheaper options for lunch - I opted for the ham, egg and chips from the latter menu. What a joke. £10.50 of my hard earned cash spent on two hard fried eggs, a pile of semi-frozen chips and two thick, slimy slices of smart price gammon. Oh, and a wilted salad garnish to really liven up the dish. Mmm. For that price I was expecting something decent. Poor show. Maybe the chef was having an off day... Who knows, but I certainly won't be returning to find out.

Nice pub with good selection of ales. Ordered evening meals and service was prompt and food was very tasty. Servings were nice and big as well.
Now the problem. On our last night decided eat here again but on the way down the high street popped into an art gallery and were slightly delayed but a good art exhibition. Left at 2040 and popped into another pub but they said kitchen closed!!
So we decided to go to George and could not believe it when they said they were only serving the customers already in pub and kitchen would close. This is midweek and pub is not even busy. Would not have been difficult to keep open a bit longer as people were still strolling the high street looking for places to eat. 2040 is not late!!
Thoroughly recommend the Wingrove who do stay open late and were happy to serve us with excellent food and wine. Its got a lovely interior and service is very good... Definitely try it out in the evening when the other pub landlords have gone to bed.

This is a nice old pub with good food and a great beer garden. Worth a visit if your nearby or passing through.

“Good Service, Food Needs Improvement”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Five of us ate here on a Friday night, and we had mixed fortunes. We ordered 3 linguine with prawns and chilli, and asked for 2 of them not to be hot, chilli-wise. Maybe this was a mistake, as the 2 with less chilli were tasteless and the one with the regular amount of chilli was wolfed down. To their credit, when this was mentioned to the staff, it was taken up with the chef, who agreed that the dish was tasteless. A replacement dish was offered but declined, so they agreed not to charge for either meal. My lamb was so tasty, cooked just the way I like it.
The rest of the meal went very well. Desserts were delicious, service was spot on, and we left a good tip to thank them for the way they had looked after us, and for the professional way they dealt with our complaint.
This is a lovely old pub in a quaint village. The beers are good and, in the main so was the food. We could not fault the service.
