We have just visited this delightful village and found a gem of a cottage owned by the National Trust. It might not be the grandest or largest of places but the staff were the best we have ever encountered! ( and we have visited lots of NT places!) The grounds were peaceful and pretty. Worth a visit.

Alfriston is delightful, narrow street, old buildings, quaint shops, pubs, hotels, tea rooms. Very large green in front of the church which is lovely with an interesting cemetery surrounding it.

Next to the church is The Clergy House, a thatched cottage. We followed the signs around to the back and the ticket office and were greeted by a very smiling, genuine, helpful lady who told us where to go, where to collect information leaflet and if any questions to return to her and she would be happy to help.

The garden is a nice cottage garden with raised vegetable beds, lawn areas, orchard, all very nice to wander around. The cottage itself is an old building and unfurnished so imagination is required but information is excellent with the pick up laminated card directing you and providing information and the time line on the wall which is full of interesting details.

A great first take over for the National Trust.

On the way out the ticket office had been taken over by a very chirpy gentleman who oozed charm and good manners, he made everyone who approached him feel welcome and as if he had all the time in the world for them.

Customer service - at The Clergy House they have it in spades.

Tucked away between the church and river, this small house is a gem. The gardens are maintained as they were and when we visited were beautiful. Very peaceful to sit in the garden and enjoy the atmosphere

Wonderful setting, well looked after, really pleasant staff: a wonderful spot in the valley, near the river footpath.

Sit in the garden on a lovely day and enjoy it to the full.
