“delicious lunch, slightly odd atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2013

I struggled to find fault with the two course Festive Menu lunch. The grilled fillet of salmon with parsley crushed potatoes, vermouth sauce and side vegetables were all delicious, freshly cooked and served on piping hot plates. Two of us chose the selection of British cheeses and asked to try all six between. These were, again, all very good including a delicious piece of Cornish Yarg.
On the downside, none of our first three choices from the wine list were available - including both of the English whites. The waiter told us, on December 19th, that they "gettting these in for Christmas". Really?!! The restaurant was not especially full on a Thursday lunchtime and the rather stilted atmoshphere certainly did not benefit from a terrible CD of pop Christmas hits on repeat.
Overall, though, great food and pretty good value.

“A special evening”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2013

From the moment we stepped foot into Deans Place we were made to feel special.
It was very busy with several Xmas parties and a full restaurant, however the service was faultless, friendly and attentive.
We decided to eat in the bar area as was slightly quieter, the charming waitress behind the bar arranged a larger table to make eating more comfortable.
The food was exceptional, the waiter recommended superb wines, that did not break the bank and were terrific.
We felt totally spoilt by the whole experience.
Will definitely return as much as possible.

“Really?”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2013

Looking at other reviews, I'm not sure we went to the right place...We were seated in one of the side dining rooms. The staff were friendly but the food was just not very good. Pigeon was dry and plaice overcooked, but that doesn't even compare with the horror that was my partner's hake. Fondant which was highly recommended succeeded in not being as bad as the main course. I don't know if their chef was ill on the day, but the food was trying to be fancy, and tasted really bad. Disappointing.

“A breakfast to set you up for the day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2013

NB Reviewing breakfast only. Perhaps not exactly OUTSTANDING food-wise (how many hotel breakfasts are?), but above average (whatever that is) and very enjoyable, with a fair selection from continental-style to full English (all buffet). It's good to see a range of fruit and a choice of seeds. Really nice, friendly and attentive staff; it's light and airy and a very pleasant atmosphere. (We didn't eat here in the evening, but plenty of other reviewers have done!)
