Our first visit to this restaurant in many years and glad to say that the food and presentation is even better than ever. We were lucky enough to discover also that Moonrakers has one bedroom suite available so grabbed the opportunity to stay overnight too. Beautiful accomodation, elegantly done, with added extras of fresh flowers and fruit, so felt very spoilt...
Robin and Polly were very welcoming and made the stay memorable with their attention to detail...will definately be coming back!!

We went for a special birthday lunch for my mum on Easter Sunday, and had booked a separate room in the restaurant. It had been beautifully laid out and gave us a lovely arena to celebrate it was especially good as we had a 2 year old with us so he could play without interrupting other diners.
All of the staff and restaurant owner were ever so accommodating especially when we had to inform them that some of our party had broken down.
The meal itself was delicious and enjoyed thoroughly by every member of the party.
My mum had a lovely meal with all of the family and we would like to again thank all the staff at the moonrakers for a helping us make this special occasion.

Moonrakers is a restaurant of two halves and two seasons. The first half/season is when it is cold and/or raining. This is when you head indoors to the snug but well appointed restaurant, with beams, fireplaces and great decor. Then there is the sunny / warm half/season, when sitting in the garden rewards you views of the village green, the church and the South Downs as a backdrop.

Ambience aside, the menu is fabulous. Locally sourced seasonal food, generally a good mix of meat, fish and veggie options. On my last visit I have carpaccio of venison in a honey and chive sauce, Sussex Lamb on a puy lentil base and cheese, whereas my wife had smoked haddock, crab linguine and chocolate slice to finish.

Lunch menu is £15.99 for 2 course, £19.99 for 3 courses. Great value for the taste, textures and flavours you will get.

Service is always of an excellent standard. My favourite restaurant in Sussex? Certainly my favourite for lunch on a warm and sunny day.

This is a beautifully laid out and cosy restaurant where everything is almost just right. Set across two rooms with a stunningly beautiful terrance, it's unique its homely feel for what is after all a "proper" restaurant.

The proprietor clearly loves his role of general genial host and drinks waiter combined, he transforms the place with his warmth that is absolutely spot-on; not too little and not too much.

The set 3 round menu is a real restaurant stuff (the choice is small, not 48 options, of which most are microwaved) each dish is finely balanced so you're not too full by end of the sweet. A shot glass of Devine parsnip soup unexpectedly arrived on our tables too.

Even the trip to the outside toilets is a treat with candles in the courtyard and, if you're lucky to be on the right side of the time switch, a beautifully lit church too.

the downsides?
One course was whisked away before being entirely complete.
Would of expected a larger wine choice.

Alfriston is a beautiful village and Moonrakers is a perfect restaurant for a treat night out that will not disappoint.
