Chaucer Barn truly is a magical place. As soon as we saw it when planning our wedding we had to have it! James & Laura are we were really helpful during the whole process. Unpretentious and absolutely lovely. Chaucer Barn is decoreated and kept to such a high standard. Each of their bedrooms are indvidually decorated and our guests loved it. The barn has lovely sitting areas, a rather large kitchen area (which doubled as our dance floor!) and beautifully kept grounds.

Chaucer Barn was a pefect setting for our perfect day. A perfect wedding venue and for a nice weekend away with family and friends. We will return. Cannott recommend this place highly enough.

“A North Norfolk Gem”
Reviewed March 7, 2013 for a stay in September 2012

We held our wedding at Chaucer Barn over 3 days in September 2012. As I, the bride, work as a wedding planner and the groom is a Virgo, we're fussy, choosy and some of our close friends say we're snobs! However, when we found Chaucer Barn we could not fault it.

I've organised hundreds of weddings and this venue offered something completely different to the normal wedding venue. It gave us the home from home feel we were looking for especially as we had invited only 19 guests.

Laura at Chaucer Barn was a star, she was discretly in the background during our stay, but never intrusive, which gave us and our guests the relaxed feeling we wanted. She was open to any of our alternative ideas. Andy Parle created a superb 6 course menu and we brought a wine flight to match each course ..... With no corkage charges!

The barn has been cleverly converted with a fabulous new wing offering bedrooms and living room. The one sided glass wall wing overlooking the knotted garden is beautiful. On warm days it can be opened up to bring the outside in.

The location is great due to it's North Norfolk location close to Holt with it's boutique shops and cafe's such as Byfords (must try their cakes), Holkham, Cromer and Sheringham for the beaches or Felbrigg and Blickling for the stately home.

Trying to find an excuse to go back very soon!

“The Most Perfect Wedding Venue”
Reviewed March 5, 2013 for a stay in March 2012

My husband and I fell in love with Chaucer Barn the moment we set eyes on it. The barn itself is beautiful. Each bedroom is indivdually decorated and the grounds are just breath taking! After our initial tour we booked our wedding for 31st March 2012. We had 80 guests to the wedding and 16 of our close friends and family stayed with us in the barn. The whole planning process was totally stress free and Laura and James could not have done any more to help us and make our wedding so brilliant. Our caterer Andy Parle was also a great help and the food was superb! We decided to get married in the banquet room and then had our wedding breakfast in a marquee on the main lawn. We then went back into the banquet room (which had been cleared and the fires had been lit) for dancing. We have had so many lovely comments from our friends and family about Chaucer Barn and I would really recommend it for a truly sensational wedding.

“IDYLLIC COUNTRY GET AWAY, PERFECTION, PEACE AND PALS”
Reviewed March 1, 2013 for a stay in September 2011

We had a long weekend at Chaucer Barn to get married. We could not have made a better choice it was perfect from the minute we made the decision and needed their help to arrange every last details until the very last guest left - it was perfect.

I dream about that weekend a lot and often go there in my daydreams as it was the closest thing to idyllic I have ever experienced. All our friends under one roof and our closest family, the house was just great and so so beautiful and unique. The gardens were gorgeous and I just cant say enough how brilliant it was. Nothing went wrong and there were no bad moments.

I really aim to spend our 10th anniversary there and invite our friends back again for a long weekend.

Loved it.

“Phenomenal setting for a phenomenal wedding”

Chaucer Barn: I was online looking for whatever the laws were regarding US/UK weddings, and civil ceremonies. I’m American, and was in the process of getting permanent residency, so wanted to make sure I’d done everything necessary before registering for the wedding. While online, I came across Chaucer Barn, literally on the only day I had ever looked for a ‘wedding venue’. I sent D the link simply saying, ‘What a dream location.’ By the end of the week, he’d visited James & Laura, took pictures to show me, and put the deposit down. I think I visited about two weeks after that, and fell even more in love. Who did they get to decorate that place? I want to marry them next! (It’s okay, D does, too. He gets my love of all things décor!)

When I was doing a 'price comparison' between hiring Chaucer Barn, as well as the catering & supplies I would need v. a one day wedding venue, Chaucer Barn won hands down. Add in the fact that you're staying there, with a large number of people, and it almost seems inexpensive in comparison.

We wanted a place that would bring the people we loved together in a relaxed setting. Done. What we hadn’t bargained for was how warm and helpful Laura was, and how she made everything seem possible. In fact, everyone at Chaucer Barn are ‘Yes’ people, and this is a trait I love- proactive and ready to make whatever you want happen. This is what you need, friends, in most every walk of wedding planning life.

We had the ceremony outside, in front of the arbor. It was important to me to be outside if I could, even though the law is really that you are ‘officially’ married under a roof. So, if you’re planning an outdoor ceremony, plan on leaving your guests for the official signing with the registrar.

James & Laura were extremely clear about all of the rules before-hand, and everything, and I mean everything, is clearly outlined in their contract. This is a large house surrounded by fantastic grounds, and it is just about 'whatever you want', but within very reasonable terms. They bent over backwards to make sure that everything went smoothly and they communicated regularly in the run up to the wedding. 'Rules' I can remember: no paper confetti (we ordered dried rose petals). Keep the band indoors, and in a particular room (this is where there is space/electricity/ possibly sound proofing from the rest of the house). Although the house is secluded, there are 'neighbours' within 1/2 a mile, so it is only polite to be sensitive to them regarding noise.

We had 55 guests, and wanted to keep the festivities in the house, instead of hiring a marquee. If you choose to use the Pink room for dinner, you will need to pay extra to lay a temporary carpet down, to ensure their beautiful wooden floor is taken care of...they did this for us and it was brilliant. We had the reception in the Pink Living Room. Staff moved the furniture out the day before, and the tables, etc were delivered by the catering supply company. The candelabras at Chaucer Barn are so beautiful, and you can use everything in the house (just remember to bring your own candles, which Laura helpfully reminded us to do before hand). As I stated earlier, everything was clearly written in the contract, and if ever there was a question, there was someone on the other end of an email or the telephone within 24 hours.

We stayed (with 16 guests) at Chaucer Barn for three nights/four days. I ordered groceries from a grocery store and they delivered before we even arrived. Laura made sure that food & drink was safely stored for us, and easy to collect on arrival. The bedrooms were immaculate, comfortable, and so tastefully decorated. Friends from all over the world kept stating how 'this was the best wedding ever- you think one thing is amazing, and then turn a corner to see something else even more amazing'. The house is big enough to accommodate small groups all over the grounds and in the house having a drink or a quiet chat, as well as a full on party in the dining room.

I cannot recommend it enough....!
