Me and my wife stayed at the White Swan for two nights in late May (when we were lucky enough to have great weather) and found the staff very friendly and the service very good. We arrived at approx 2pm but did not have to wait for our room which was very clean with modern decor although a bit small, it is en-suite with a powerful hot shower which was just what we needed after a day out and about. The 'double bed' was in fact two singles pushed together but still comfortable enough for a decent nights sleep.
We didn't eat any evening meals at the pub but looking at the food which was served to other customers it looked very nice. The live entertainment in the evenings was very good, although we sat too close to the speakers on the 2nd night and our ears took a bashing. You could hear the music when we returned to our room but it didnt keep us awake. The cooked breakfast was very nice and very big with double everything. The first morning it was piping hot but the following morning a little cold which i think was due to a lot more people eating. The breakfast service is only between 9 and 10 o'clock so everyone hits the dining room at about the same time, so be prepared to wait.
Swanage itself is a fairly small seaside town which is in quite good condition compared to a lot of seaside towns we have visited in the past. There is a clean sandy beach and the sea is calm (but cold). There is a good selection of pubs and restaurants including the mandatory indian and chinese. We tried the indian and were pleasantly surprised how good the meal was.
During the daytime i would recommend taking a trip on the swanage steam railway, it is only a short journey ( about 3 or 4 stops) but its like going back in time to the railway children with the quaint little stations. It takes you to Corfe Castle which is a beautiful little stone clad village beneath the ruins of the castle. The train fare was £9.00 each but i think it is worth it for the stunning views alone.
Overall i would say we had a very good time in swanage and would not hesitate to return to the White Swan.

Stayed in White Swan for two nights but was a bit worried as I had read a bad review just before we were due to go. However, needn't have worried. Nice friendly landlord, manager and staff - all lovely. Breakfast was lovely, and not the small plate I was expecting. Very laid back atmosphere. Only one gripe, that was the mattress in the room - really could do with a new one!! I read that some people had complained about the noise from other rooms etc? Well, we didn't hear anything, and we stayed over the Blues weekend (which, if you're into music you must attend!) Brilliant time and would stay at White Swan again.

My wife and I recently booked a two night break at the white swan , the person we booked with seemed very friendly and helpful, upon arrival we were told our room was not ready so could we come back in an hour , that was fine because we were early .
Upon returning hours later it still wasnt ready and could we come back later ! this was now 3.30pm. Eventually we were shown our room which was a double with ensuite , very clean as recently the hotel had been refurbished, but it was the size of a postage stamp just enough room for the bed but no room for a dresser , the bathroom had been added making the room tiny, and if you think of a standard size shower tray that was its width , to brush my teeth i had to bend double with my backside jammed against the door !!!.
Breakfast was served in the bar area (food nothing to shout about and small portions) whilst eating the hoovers and smells fom polish surrounded you as they cleaned from the night before !
Those were the bad points . good points were location right in the heart of Swanage minutes from the beach, own carpark even if it was very small and tight as carparking would have been a nightmare .If anyone has any more questions id be pleased to answer.
