“Another lovely break ”
Reviewed February 26, 2014 via mobile

Stayed for an idyllic five day treat, it's so lovely to come here and feel looked after, it's not the most splendid looking building ever, but the service is terrific, the staff friendly and relaxed and the views from most of the rooms are to die for. We had room 18 this time, a lovely suite with a double bed room, a twin bed separate room, a nice large vestibule hallway with a huge wardrobe and a bathroom with bath and shower. The larger bedroom had a large patio style window leading onto a private balcony overlooking swanage bay and the second window looked out on the Purbeck hills. We enjoy the food here, the breakfasts are waiter service and offer a varied menu, the kippers and smoked haddock are lovely. We like buffet service but there is something about having your food bought to you that feels especially luxurious and pleasant. They cater very well for lunches and dinner is an occasion to dress up a little, if you want and enjoy an imaginative, tasty menu that caters solidly for all but the most pernickety diner and even these can usually be satisfied with a few special tweaks if requested. The Pines appeals to a wide range of ages and young children are often here and they too seem to enjoy the sense of occasion. It always seems very well maintained, even through the appalling rain and wind has taken its toll on so many sea front properties. We love it here and can't wait to return to laze around, be waited on and to go to sleep to the sound of the sea.
From Mr and Mrs Evans.

A last minute one night booking, although we have been before 4 years ago so knew "what to expect".
Despite not having a "sea view room" (they were avaiable but we had a great deal with "Booking.com"), they took the trouble to contact me by phone to tell us the room we had was very quiet with outstanding views of the Swange hills and downs...and there were right.
Room comfy and warm.... We were told there was a new chef, and "wow", what a difference!...The dinner was excellent (never had a fillet steak like it). Worth a "Rosette"! Staff very helpful and attentive. The only downside was the drinks were somewhat pricey..but the bottle of Rioja was sumptious...so you get what you pay for! Well down The Pines
We'll be back!

Room Tip: We had room 33 - godd value and great views

We eat regularly at The Pines - the food being solid rather than spectacular - but the views are amazing. staff very attentive. BUT why must the starter arrive before the drinks - and why is the Sweet menu offered before the main course is cleared??

Fantastic seaviews from our room and the gardens! Watched the storm from the comfort of our beautiful balcony room. The food in the restaurant was excellent in variety and quality. We are planning to visit again next year with the children as the beach will be fabulous come summer time.

Room Tip: Go for either rm 18 or room 36 the views are to die for!!

My self and my husband stayed in this hotel for my birthday.

Lets start with the good.
Where do I begin, We were late at booking a room and was given a room that was due to be refurbished which to me is ok, we paid an extra £29 for a sea view which was ok a bit spoilt by the over looking balconies that can look right on to the bed. And the flat roof under the window but wow still a lovely view. The room its self was very nice tired yes but clean and spacious. The receptionist was lovely very friendly. And good car parking area.

The bad. Our room was clean however the en-suite was horrid the water when showering did not drain so was standing in lots of water, the shower/bath area was riddles with someones hair that had been shaved off prior to our arrival it was all over the bath and shower area, the toilet seat had a chip/crack in it, the bath panel was filthy. the sink had a brown substance next to the taps the tap seals were orange, down the wall next to the sink there were toothpaste marks all the way down to the floor.
The breakfast at the Pines hotel was not great porridge made with water? no option either as to how you like it. I asked for eggy bread instead of fried bread I was told "NO" I asked for beans again I was told 'NO" Although he did go away and came back and said that I could have beans. The rest of the breakfast was ok. kippers my husband had were lovely.
While eating my breakfast I noticed that all the curtains were riddled with cobwebs. And when the restaurant manager put out the veranda blinds they again were filthy.

We did not approach the hotel when were were there as we had to catch a train and was running late and did not want to spoil the day.

I E-mailed the manager when I got home and got back not what I was expecting he disagreed with me about the hotel being tired yet it is. He said he had gone to the room after receiving the feedback form and said he could not find the dirt in the the bathroom. I felt he dealt with the complaint badly and was quite rude in his answers to me.

I would never stay here again and would not recommend it.

must be one of the best hotels in Swanage.

large comfortable lounge for a relaxing drink ( tea/coffee or stronger ), large car park, great views over the sea and along the coast, ideal for walkers.

most of the visitors were returning and only had good things to say - which can't be bad.

not cheap but value for money with excellent, friendly service.

we will certainly go again.

Room Tip: go for the top floor if possible.
