“Excellent location, friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012

We booked this last minute, one night stay at The Pines as we had stayed here before & knew that it was in an excellent prime location in Swanage. We were offered a small, double room with sea view at a good price & our booking was handled in a very friendly, efficient manner & we received an email to confirm our booking.
The car parking is very good at this hotel & our check in was handled in a very friendly, efficient manner. There is a lift to all floors & when we got to our room, we were very pleased with the view from the window. We had already been advised that the room was a small, double & I must admit that although it was small, it had all that was needed for our stay. There was plenty of storage space & tea/coffee making facilities with added biscuits, always a bonus. The television was a lovely modern one too.
Our only criticism of the room was a steep step that went from the area that the bed was sited to the bathroom, & you had to be very careful to remember that it was there, you could easily fall especially if you needed to visit the bathroom at night. We did manage to cope by leaving a small light on, but it could cause a nasty accident.
We had no complaints at all concerning the food & during our short stay, enjoyed a carvery meal on arrival at lunchtime, which was excellent. We also had a cream tea served by a really lovely, friendly & efficient young lady, who is a credit to the hotel. The breakfast that we had on our last morning was excellent & was served by a very friendly, courteous & efficient waiter. There was a very good choice of breakfast items available & the hot food was served on hot plates & was fabulous.
Check out was quick & easy & we must praise the lovely, friendly reception staff who obviously make a massive contribution to promoting the hotel to it's best. Thanks to all concerned

Room Tip: Sea view room a must

We stayed for one night.
The good - large car park, great views, breakfast choice and service, nice entrance area with bar.
The bad - poor soundproofing, dirty carpet, cramped bathroom, dirty bathroom floor, tiny bathroom sink, used pillow cases, office type ceiling tiles throughout, the cost.
The hotel must also have had a pet friendly policy as there were plenty of dogs being walked by guests. Don't know if they restrict pets to certain rooms.
Overall we were not impressed.

We decided on a whim to go the seaside for the night and chose Swanage and then chose the Pines; what a good choice we made.
We had a lovely sea view room and enjoyed a delicious evening meal and top cooked breakfast. I always rate a full English on the quality of the sausage! You could skimp and serve up a cheap tasteless tube or serve a proper meaty sausage. The pines sausage was FABULOUS! So top marks there!
The final and maybe main thing was the wonderful staff. We are guide dog puppy walkers and brought our puppy Rochester with us. He and us couldn't have been made more welcome. Do stay, we are sure you will love The Pines.

We've just returned from a one night stay at the Pines hotel. The receptionist was very helpful The room we had was very spacious it was on the ground floor and It had patio doors that led out onto a lawn with our own seating area. The view overlooking Swanage Bay was beautiful. Although the room was very comfortable it is outdated. In fact the whole of the hotel could do with a makeover especially the dining area. The waiting staff in the dining area really need to learn how to talk to customers. The hotel management also need to sort out the way seats are arranged in the dining area we found it very offputting having to sit so close to other people. The food in the restaurant was okay but for the price that we were paying we really would be looking for an experience instead be felt that the food arrived very quickly and that we were rushed out of the restaurant to the extent that the breakfast tables were being set up whilst we were eating, It was nice however to be served breakfast at your table in the morning. Overall a pleasant stay but we would not rush back.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room overlooking Swanage Bay

We love Swanage so were disappointed not to be able to get into out favourite hotel. We booked the Pines as there were vacancies and it was short notice. Rooms were reasonable certainly and check in was pleasant and the receptionist helpful. Overall, however, there is a 'greyness' about this hotel. Young waiting staff were not the most cheerful, nor were they the smartest we've seen one though one or two of the older staff seemed to know what this business was about so I rather felt sorry for them.. Food was pedestrian (though not cheap) and there was no courtesy on check out - no 'hope you've had a nice stay etc' One evening we decidided to eat at our favourite hotel as non- residents and the difference in quality of welcome, food, service and hospitality was astounding!

Many of the other guests appeared to be comfortable here but the atmosphere in the restaurant and lounge was morbidly quiet. This is the only slighlty depressing experience we've ever had in Swanage. With more energy and enthusiam given to staff training - this hotel could compete as the lounge and dining areas are light and splendid. This was not value for money but the lack of warmth and pleasantries grated more than the over-priced rooms and food.

Room Tip: Ask for the biggest and best and then check other hotels for compatibility!

We stayed here for two nights in August. The people were really friendly and the location is fantastic but i would not say it was value for money. We had a downs facing room which was a little on the tight side for a couple, and i would not have wanted to stay in the room for a week. On the first morning we needed breakfast before it was due to start and so they were happy to accommodate us with a continental. However, when we arrived at our table to toast was waiting for us(!) and the 'fresh' fruit was a bit undesirable. The waiting staff were happy to serve us more toast and the service was friendly. However for the amount we paid for the two nights I would have expected a little more for our money, and believe the price reflects the location more than the room/food that is on offer.
