Just a short walk down the hill to the beach. Lovely old building. Some bedrooms rather small with nowhere to put luggage and some with old style YHA mattresses which are not v comfortable. Kitchen in need of renovation. Staff v friendly and helpful. Pool table kept kids amused. Overall good.

Room Tip: Ask about size of room. Also the rooms at the front have a good view.

I came here with my school, for a gcse field trip to find out about swanage & the purbeck coast, I loved the hostel, the rooms was so clean & so was the toilets & showers.the food was okay, wasn't amazing but it was nice for the meals we got given. I was in room 14 ,which was a small room which was for 4 ppl, there wasn't enough space but it was enough for us 3 tht shared that room, there wasn't any places to put clothes but we kept them in suitcases, other than that, it was a beautiful stay, and I would recommed it to anyone who would wanna stay in swanage!, the veiws are amazing too xox

Our family room was small and durty. No space in it. No table for my kid. Everything had to be put on the little durty ground. No towell. But durty floor. Smelling matratz and a small window with a view on a roof.

And this little room with 4 beds. A prison with durt would have been closed.

And it did cost me and my 4,5 year old about 40 pounds.

SWANAGE YHA.....We stay here for couple of nights.... we found the staff to be helpful and nice. Our room was quite large and ok.... but no wardrobe or hanging hook for clothes.
Games Room and Lounge was very good and quite large.... the only minor downside was the evening meals that we pay £11.95 for 3 course meal was a disappointing.... and boring... but otherwise we had a good stay.

Stayed here for 4 nights for a late summer break with a toddler.

I thought the foyer, dining room, and lounge were all really impressive for a youth hostel. There is a very usable self-catering kitchen and laundry. our room was very basic but clean and bright. our particular room had a brilliant view out across the bay.

To be honest, it took a day to get used to the workings and conventions of a youth hostel like the shared kitchen and ordering meals in advance and so on. Likewise, for one night we stayed in one of their 6 bedded rooms. It took a few minutes to get used to the bizarre looking, but very practical bed arrangement,

The only downside for me was trying to manoeuvre a 3 year-old around the very compact (but usually clean) toilets and bathrooms.

The staff were very friendly, very helpful and knew the local area and attractions well.

Even the weird, inconvenient stuff was sort of fun. We met a lot of interesting, nice people. YHA Swanage has inspired us to visit other YHAs.

Recommended!

Room Tip: The best views are at the front of the building including room numbers 6 and 7. Try not to be next t...

We stayed 5 nights with my two boys (aged 2 and 3) and we had a family room which was unfortunately quite small, but had a bay window with a beautiful view of the seaside. We slept in bunk beds which were very narrow and very high for my boys. My youngest fell out of the lower bunk in the middle of the night with a loud thud, but survived with just a shock. Part of the hostels toilets and showers have already been renovated and they were very nice. Our room was not in this part of the hostel but it was clean. The lounge was big and a great place to hang out with the children for bad weather. For older children there was a big games room which had internet access. The self-catering kitchen was a bit small and often crowded and unfortunately closed during lunch times but if you get in early it isn't a problem.
All-in-all we had a great time and once the hostel has been renovated would go again.

Maggie and Malcolm looked after a group of 9 of us and our stay was clean and comfortable. We stayed in two 8 birth dorms sharing with some other lone travellers. Staff were helpful about locking up valuables and the hostel is a very short walk to the town centre. The hostel also has a bar which was excellent news! It was also really good to have somewhere to park.

I left something behind, but I called the staff and they are posting it back to me once they receive my cheque for postage and packing. Very helpful.

Swanage is also a great place to party.
