“The Hotel & Staff were true to the name - "GRAND"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2012

We took a weekend 2 night stay with breakfast @ The Grand Hotel, on a KGB deal.
The service was faultless, and the rooms (although a little tired) were well presented and clean.
The sea view was stunning, even in MARCH. The private beach was all golden sand.
The Burlington Gym & Health facility, included in the room price (except treatments) was a very welcome extra, to burn off the Dorset Cream Teas,Pastries and local Ales.
A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Try & choose the first or second floor, to avoud the eves in the roof.

Booked a good deal on line for 2 night weekend break with breakfast for 2 poeple for £89. we went 24th feb so wasn't expecting the weather to be that great but we had an unexpected heatwave that weekend which really made it special!! The hotel is very "grand" & old fashioned bit then so is swanage!! very unspoilt little sea side town!! the staff are very friendly & helpful. The rooms are clean & comfortable( you have to pay an extra £20 per night for sea view!!) lovely bar & conservatory with beautiful views across the bay!! Well worth a visit!!

Room Tip: sea view room if you can afford to pay the extra cost!!

We have just spent the weekend at The Grand on a KGB deal. We had a fantastic stay. All the staff were very friendly and attentive, with a special mention for the barman/waiter with whom we built up a great repartit!(very impressed with his humour seeing as English is not his first language!) This hotel has a fantastic position with glorious views and a beautiful staircase and stained glass window that I fell in love with. Great atmosphere in the hotel lounge in the evenings too. Will definitely make a return visit. Thanks to all the staff for such an enjoyable stay.

We also stayed at The Grand on a KGB deal and could not fault it. We were luck to have booked for a time that coincided with a Blues Festival in the town and the hotel was one of the music venues which was a pleasant surprise. When we checked in we were allocated a room on the 3rd floor which worried us initially after reading some of the previous reviews but it was fine and with a sea view. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The hotel and surrounding areas suffered a power cut on the last morning of out stay but coped admirably. A great break and would definitely return

Room Tip: Request sea view.

We recently stayed at The Grand Hotel on a KGB package and I could not fault anything about it. The staff were friendly and very helpful and our room was clean, light and airy, with a great shower. We did not opt to may more for a sea-view as we used it purely as a base, but the time we spent in the hotel was great. The breakfast menu in the morning was extremely comprehensive and set you up for the day! The views from the dining room were magnificent as it looked over the garden and beyond that was the sea. I could happily have sat and looked at it all day long!

Room Tip: We were on a cheap KGB deal and did not think it was worth it for us to pay an additional £20 per ni...

Although not as it would have been in its pomp, this hotel still has some lovely features. It is in an enviable elevated position with great views of the bay and a flight of steps at the bottom of the garden that lead directly onto the beach.
On entering the hotel, we found the lounge bar warm and welcoming, with a dual-aspect gas/coal fireplace that created the ambiance for the room. The conservatory leading off it, although slightly spartan in its furnishings, made the most of the beautiful bay views. Bar prices generally seemed reasonable for a hotel, but be warned - stay clear of the Peroni beer: pushing a fiver a pint, it comes expensive!
The dining room, where we had our included breakfast, was clean and fresh and again, had the views across bay. The breakfast had all you could want, with cereals, fresh fruit and a variety of juices. The menu included the 'Full English" with a selection of extras, as well as kippers and smoked haddock. Everything was well presented and served efficiently, with a choice of bread for toast in copious amounts, all very enjoyable.
Staff throughout the hotel were pleasant, polite, friendly and efficient, not at all intrusive.
Although there were only 2 of us, we were allocated a large, light and airy room overlooking the road, which was a family one (the room that is, not the road, which belongs to the council!) and had a comfy double, plus bunk beds. In spite of being rather dated with old fittings, the bathroom was clean and functional. The shower was great, though - hot and powerful!
Swanage itself is a pretty, little, traditional seaside town, with a lovely, golden, sandy beach. For its size, it has a reasonable number of pubs and eateries, but out of season and midweek, they were all but deserted in the evening - even the fish and chip shops were closed after 8pm!
As a former 20-plus year member of the National Trust, my partner looked forward to visiting nearby Corfe Castle, but was very disappointed when faced with the reality. We feel the £7.50 entrance fee is excessive, when compared to what is offered at other NT properties and others of similar ilk.
We were visiting the Grand on a 2-night voucher deal – this hotel really represented great value for our money.
Overall, the Grand Hotel and Swanage were lovely places to visit. 8/10.

Positives - We stayed for 2 nights on an offer and really liked the hotel. The reception area was small but opened out into a large loung/bar area. Needless to say the most striking feature is the stunning view across the bay which really is quite awesome particularly when sunny. Breakfast and dinner were very good and even better if you manage to get a table overlooking the aforementioned bay! The staff were really polite and efficient. Although not on the staff we were fortunate that a visiting American gentlemen - entertained us on the Baby Grand each evening with some superb playing all voluntary..

Negatives - Limited parking on site but there is a bus stop 100 yds. down the road where you can get a bus into town (with connections to other places) or Bournemouth.(ditto).

Room Tip: Sea view is essential.
