“Great staff, need new pillows!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

Outside looks impressive. Inside, the old architecture looks great, lovely the coloured tiled floors and high ceilings. The decor is quirky in throwing old wall paper, old drapes, old chairs and carpets together with nothing matching. But if it did, it may feel less relaxed. Love that a few older couples playing cards or scrabble in the lounge or bar. Reminded me of films of the early 20th century where elderly retired to sea side hotels!

Staff very helpful and friendly. Can't fault them. Has a homely feel which is nice for a big place.

There is a new 'annex', a separate building which I believe is modern inside (didn't see myself).

Beds bit hard and pillows like flat bricks, so bring your own!

Room Tip: I stayed in room 17, 2nd floor (no lift), very spacious and a view over the bay which is lovely. Old...

As my husband's health had not been good I had left booking anywhere until the very last minute. The Purbeck House Hotel was everything I hoped it would be; we had a very spacious and comfortable room in Louisa Lodge (I hate pokey hotel rooms!), all the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful and efficient. Breakfast was very good with plenty to choose from. We ate in the hotel on our first night and the food and service was exemplary. On our second night we ate in La Trattoria on the High Street which was wonderful. There is plenty of parking at the hotel and it is situated near to everything but in a quieter part of the town. I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to family and friends and will definitely come again if we are ever in that part of the country again. A very enjoyable two night stay in the Purbeck House Hotel, and in Swanage and the surrounding area.

Room Tip: From my experience Louisa Lodge rooms are spacious and comfortable.

A couple of weeks ago we decided to visit Swanage for the first time and did not know where to stay for our four night break, well we really struck lucky and discovered Purbeck Lodge Hotel. A lovely converted victorian gentlemans mansion right in the middle of Swanage, half-way up the High Street in the quiet part of town with elevated views, large gardens, plenty of car parking with an additional modern extension. We stayed in the Louisa Lodge the modern extension in the grounds in a large double room overlooking the gardens with good views of the bay all the way to the Isle of Wight. We opted for the DBB option and must say the dinners were extremely good with the option to choose three dishes from the a la carte menu dining in the lovely panelled dining room. Breakfast was also very good with the cooked option to individual order and specification served in the larger conservatory dining room. The staff were also to be commended for their friendliness and nothing was too much trouble - we will be back.

Stayed here for two nights and wished we had stayed longer!
The hotel itself is a lovely old house full of charm, and only a short walk from the town centre. We stayed in the Louisa Lodge which are situated in the gardens and give a lovely view of the house
and some we notice give views of Swanage Bay!
The food was very good as was the service from the staff on every level. It true the house is not going to set the world on fire but we loved it.

When they say room 4 is big they do not contravene the trade description act - it's huge. A very large well appointed room with great views of the gardens. Contrary to other reviews the room was very tastefully decorated as was the rest of the hotel. This Hotel is not going to set the world on fire, but the breakfast was good, the room was very enjoyable so all in all we enjoyed our one night stay.

Room Tip: Room 4 for me every time!

Fleeing from a truly dreadful hotel in Bognor Regis, we were keen to find somewhere comfortable and welcoming where we could spend a couple of nights to relax and re-establish marital harmony. On our first circuit of Swanage town centre, I saw a sign to Purbeck House Hotel up a hill to our left and was instantly thrilled. It took us another circuit to find it. As the imposing, castle like edifice came into view I shouted, I want it, let’s go here.

Amazingly, one double room was available for two nights. It had an amazing, five part bay window looking out onto the formal gardens and old trees of the grounds and was huge, with three desks and a large sofa annexe, fireplace and wardrobes. The bathroom suite was equally spacious and well maintained. We tried to conceal our happy surprise as we accepted it - with a discount (as it was the last available) from Superior Double to just Double rate, including breakfasts.

In our suite I sit at the desk in the bay window bathed in the late afternoon sunshine. The orange trumpet flower vines rustle into the open windows and the bees, ever present in this lingering summer, remain outside for once as the afternoon heat fades and the shadows from the ancient trees grow ever longer.

Purbeck House’s library beckons. My partner snores gently. Happiness permeates our warm and golden chamber.

Stayed at Purbeck House for four nights break in Swanage, a favourite town. Had a room in the front of the main house. All. very good. What a lovely old house, expected Poirot to appear at any moment. Breakfasts exceedingly good and service throughout. Would reccomend this hotel every time.
