“Great. old fashioned Hotel.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013 via mobile

Stayed at Purbeck House for four nights break in Swanage, a favourite town. Had a room in the front of the main house. All. very good. What a lovely old house, expected Poirot to appear at any moment. Breakfasts exceedingly good and service throughout. Would reccomend this hotel every time.

Great location, lovely and quiet although it's in the town and with lovely gardens.....but when you get inside it needs updating on a grand scale. Should think the last time it was decorated was the 1970's so it is very tired looking. Our room was a very large room over looking the gardens but it looked grim with torn curtains and faded pictures on the wall. The staff were great and everything was clean but for the money it was not good. Breakfast was just o.k. scrambled egg was dry, bacon very salty and tinned mushrooms. no fresh fruit only a bowl of tinned fruit cocktail. Sadly would not go back.

2 night stay in Louisa Lodge which is the more modern part of the hotel and is built in the grounds which are very nice. The room was very large and spacious. Cleanliness excellent. Couldn't fault anything. Accommodation and food were excellent as were the staff. We had evening meals and breakfasts which were first class. The restaurant, bar and lounge are located in the main part of the hotel which is full of history and is a beautiful building . The Location was good as it is close the the beach, pubs, restaurants and shops.

Room Tip: Louisa Lodge is the new built part of the hotel situated in the grounds but is very nice but if you...

This little beauty not only looks a cut above as it towers above the idyllic seaside town of Swanage. But once you walk up the five or six steps and through its quietly confident front doors you immediately begin to realise that apart from its slightly faded grandeur you could be stepping into something akin to the 'Remains of the day" or indeed "Downton Abbey". Some of the rooms are in the old house itself and others in a lodge, situated within the small but impeccably kept gardens. Either way you can be forgiven if you found yourself quietly planning to spend a day or two of your little sojourn to the sea doing nothing more then just being in and around this tranquil piece of history. To finalise as you should expect the restaurant and breakfast conservatory are divine, the meals all prepared with local produce and a adequate medium sized bar completes this little oasis to a grander era.

Room Tip: The lodge is lovely, but go for a room in the main house and the higher up the better.

3 night stay. Have stayed here on a number of previous occasions & each time service, accommodation & food have been above reproach. Always a friendly welcome; rooms well appointed & many of those in the main building have terrific views over the town & the sea. Convenient for the town & its amenities, (if you like your beer, try the Red Lion about 100 metres down the road). Plenty of parking, our car didn't move for 3 days.

I've stayed in this hotel five times now and always had very good service. I stayed only once in the Louisa Lodge which, although perfectly good, is nowhere near as impressive as the main hotel and not really worth the money.

In the main hotel, the rooms are grand and quirky. The four-poster bedroom has character, with an octagonal bathroom in a turret and more cupboards and drawers than in my entire house (it used to be the sewing room I believe). The original servants bells can still be seen near the breakfast room.

Always ask for a room in the main house as they can be enormous. Staff are helpful and friendly. The hotel is quite costly, but it is very central and a short walk into Swanage itself. Breakfast is OK but nothing special. Plenty of free and safe parking on site and lovely grounds.

Stayed for just the 1night, in Louisa lodge annexe, so cannot comment on rooms in main building. Room airy & spacious along with clean and more than acceptable furnishings - when I travel back to area I shall have no hesitation in stating here again. Breakfast very good, all you could ask for. Car park & location to town excellent. Staff very friendly & courteous.
Thanks again
