“Wonderful Sunday dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2012

Just been and had the best Sunday roast in a very long time, the food was delicious and of a very high quality. Best Sunday dinner in the whole of The Isle of Purbeck! The staff were friendly and welcoming , my daughter requested something that wasn't on the Sunday menu which was not a problem for their chef. The prices were extremely reasonable for the area. The kids play area is a must whilst we relaxed after our dinner the kids played nicely with the holiday makers! Really glad I live in Swanage because this is where I want my Sunday dinner every week!

I haven't camped since I was a young lad but thanks to Herston campsite I will become a regular to camping and Herston. My girlfriend and our family have had a fantastic time at Herston and have taken advantage of all the facilities. The pitches are a bargain and all you need is on the site. Set in the Purbeck hills but only a 10 minute walk to the town of Swanage and the beach. The family showers were perfect, the hot water powerful, plenty of seating areas and hooks for clothes and towels and privacy for parents and their children. The grounds were free of litter and beautifully kept, the main showers and toilets were spotless and we didn't see any mould!
The staff were a friendly and helpful team and nothing was too much trouble! As a novice camper I had no washing up bowl or washing up liquid but lots of dirty plates!A very kind member of staff lent these to me (and a sponge!) without batting an eyelid!I will be back again very soon!

Beware of the static caravans pictures on website are not of the static caravans they are pictures of the park homes fooled into thinking these are what i was booking,If you do book beware of static home-heather 5 in right poor state should be scraped or have a major overhaul and a good deep clean.also staff very disorganized with their booking system just don't seem to know whats going on!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: book the park homes lot better and quieter

Firstly no one is fooled into anything, the static caravans are far cheaper than the park homes on site which is clearly explained when booking proven by you being the only customer to make this unfounded allegation about our website.

Secondly Heathers 5 is a good quality static caravan in tip top condition. In your photos of the interior of the caravan we noticed the pelmet had become unattached from the rail this is remedied instantly by attaching it back to the Velcro fixing. Our housekeeper is a very conscientious and diligent lady who ensures all accommodation on site is perfectly suitable for our guests.

We also noticed that one of your photos showed a white board leaning against the caravan; this is used by our gardener when trimming or cutting grass as protection to ensure no grass is blown up the side of the caravans.

As a team we are very organised on site and have a very easy to use and clear booking system.

We have had no complaints before or after you left.

just back from another fantastic stay at herston-went down on fri for the carnival and had another great time, new showers have been put in place to make it easier for the moaners that cant be bothered to walk an they were great-people must be confused as to where they are staying because we havent encountered any problems while staying here.people are saying they think its expensive but if you have 4-5 adults paying just over a fiver each for a night and having all the facilities available for that it is great value for money.
These people should be staying in a hotel and keeping clear of any campsites if they are worried about dirt an no hot water!!!!
Also we had our deck chairs pinched, when we informed staff the owner had them bring us down a picnic table and gave us a bottle of champagne as well!! thats service...
thanks again to everyone that made our weekend and we will be back soon!!

Great location, shame about the state of the showers and toilets. Mould on the ceilings, blocked shower heads and only 5 working showers for hundreds of people. Then to top it all they close for cleaning at 8am, just when everyone needs a shower!

Many thanks for you taking the trouble to write a review about our showers. I am afraid that you are mistaken about the mold. Due to the vigorous wall and ceiling scrubbing of our diligent staff, they actually scrubbed off the paint in places!! The showers have now been completely repainted.
The shower heads are not blocked. We had complaints that they were too powerful for small children, so we have had to turn down the water pressure. Yes, closing for cleaning at 8am is not sensible and we now reviewed our procedures since we always take regard of sensible customer feedback.

I have just read a recent review. I read it posted at the reception office. This does not sound like the place I just stayed at. This is the first review I have written. Congrats to Mikeoak 4 for getting me to do some typing to put it straight for the other campers.
The reasons are : we never found any mould and the showers were more than acceptable - lots of hot water. They were always clean when we used them.
We used the new mobile family showers which consist of toilet, basin and shower. These are far better than the communial ones, but there are not enough of them !! So come on Herston - get some more !!!!
Just finished a week's stay and there were no blocked drains.
I paid by card in the office when the office was open.
This is one of the prettiest parts of the country that I have stayed at.
It is a nice short walk to the steam railway station. A few minutes travel into town.
The beach is nice and sandy and cleaned every day by a tractor.
This is a wonderful site and I will be recommending it to family and friends back in Norwich.

I've never before been compelled to write a bad review about ANYONE on this site but congratulations to Herston campsite on making me do so. The field we camped in had not seen a mow in at least 6 weeks, the toilet in the portakabin did not flush whilst the showers had no hot water, leaving us with a 5 minute walk to the 'nice' shower block by the main entrance. In a nutshell, these facilities were disgusting. Drains blocked, water everywhere, lights not working and mould growing on surfaces like it was being farmed. Health & Safety, if you're reading this get yourself down here and you'll have a field day.

To add insult to injury, the person in 'charge' of the camping area made a huge mistake in pricing our tariff ending in an embarrassing incident of his own making yet somehow managing to make us at fault on the basis of him "doing this job since he was 12". We were verbally quoted one price for 2 nights based on 2 tent pitches which managed to double in cost by the time we were packing to leave because he had not done the maths properly. He also insisted on cash even though we eventually discovered the main reception took card payment. Dodgy or what?! I work in client services and if you screw up because you say the wrong thing to a client, you either honour it or make them good, you don't back up and throw the bomb at them.

The irony of this whole story is that after we exited 1 day earlier than planned, we ended up finding a gem of a campsite just outside Weymouth professionally run with facilities to die for. The cost of a pitch? Exactly what we paid for at Hell Hole Herston.

This is a review by a person who tried to get away with not paying the correct tariff. We have had the wettest spring and summer on record so far. We could not cut the grass as short as we normally do until quite recently, for fear of causing permanent damage.
The maintenance staff have not reported any problems with our showers and toilets. The floors will be wet when the showers are in use. The showers are cleaned every hour. There is no mould and there is hot water all the time.
We accept cards during office hours, when the office is open. When the office is closed, we can only take cash. Our staff should not be accused of being dodgy. They are very trustworthy with money.
If you are that concerned about Health and Safety, then you should contact them and visit with them. We have an excellent record with them.
Rather than be anonymous, why dont you put up your name and address, so we can check that you actually did stay with us
