“Proper pub grub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013

This is the first time we've eaten here and it won't be the last!
Would highly recommend the wild boar and chorizo burger with sweet potato fries. Amazing!
Hubby enjoyed a couple of pints of real ale - a special treat in itself.
The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful but not in your face.

Every interaction we had with with staff was friendly and helpful so why oh why Marstons would you undermine all of that for the sake of a decent mattress. We were in room 10 which was very clean and roomy. £300 for a decent mattress? You do the maths!

We required a last minute room in Sherborne on Friday night and called in off the street on the off chance that there was a room available.
The receptionist was most welcoming and offered us from a choice of three rooms. We checked in immediately but explained that we were unsure of what time we would be back to use the room. She was very helpful, and gave us an outside key in case the pub had closed.
The room was light airy, very clean as was the bathroom. The views from the windows overlooked Sherborne Abbey.

The breakfast was excellent and overall we would use this again.

We ate lunch here - nice pub style menu with something for everyone in our group (from 13 -70 yrs). Service was quick, efficient and friendly. Very spacious dining area that makes it easy to get in and out and find a good table. Highly recommended for lunch - did not have opportunity to stay or go in the evening but bar looked like it had a nice atmosphere. Great location almost directly across from the Abbey.

I was booked into this establishment by the institution I was visiting in Sherborne for a one night stay. It is part of a chain of pub/hotel hybrids run by the Marstons brewery chain. The car park is a pay&display situated at the rear of the premises and accessed via a lane to the right hand side of the building. If you are staying at the hotel you do not need to display a ticket but you must give your registration number to the receptionist when you check in.

The hotel itself is situated in the centre of the historic town close to a few restaurants and next door to another pub, the Three Plumes (see separate review). Although my room was a single, it had plenty of space with a sizeable en suite bathroom. The radiator in the main room was built into the fittings and in accessible and the one in the bathroom had no knobs to turn it down with so I reverted to the (rather wasteful) temperature control method of opening the windows.

The plumbing in the building is probably fairly old and the cold water tap in the sink produced a sound that Dizzy Gillespie would have been proud of.

The breakfast - and it was nice to see breakfast included in the room price - was good quality.

All in all, for £37 it was cheaper than I normally pay for a night in a plastic travelodge clone type hotel and I would certainly stay there again.

I like too much the town and therefore I found the hotel fantastic because when you exit you find deeply in the heart of the city. The rooms are clean and confortable. Taste the beers of the below pub.

First night I stayed there there were pubes and leg hair all over the sheets. The people working there responded quite quickly and offered that night free. In the room that I stayed in, there was no heater. They did provide a portable heater but that had to be switched off at night as I didn't want burn the place down. The bed had a MASSIVE dip in it as if 1000 people had sex on it and created a dent.

The plus side is that it only cost £35 pounds a night... The breakfast in the morning was not too bad. Good way to start the day. Even though the breakfast dining room is located in the pub, it does not smell of stale alcohol in the morning.
