The rooms are of a reasonable size, clean, and well furnished in a mildly institutional way. The decoration is a bit slap dash and there was a damp stain in my bathroom. Being on the first floor at the front there was a lot of noise from those drinking on the patio in front of the hotel that a closed window did not mitigate. This disturbance stopped at midnight. You do also hear the chimes of the nearby Abbey. Reception is basically a stairwell and access to the rooms is by a set of steep stairs. The staff are helpful and friendly. As others have pointed out the food is poor although the breakfast is passable. The bar is pleasant, and the beer choice is good.
A little more effort on the decoration, noise insulation, and food would make the Half Moon so much better.More
