A fantastic place to visit. Well worth the price. The actual castle is absolutley massive, very well laid out, & very informative. The staff are very friendly & knowledgeable. The grounds are gardens are a delight, with nice long walks & a lovely lake. The tearoom was warm & friendly. If you are in the area, it is a good place to visit.

The house is very interesting, with plenty of information and guides around to help. The lake walks are very pleasant.

“Always a classy visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013 via mobile

The castle is always holding fairs charity parties and sometimes even jools holland. There is a very good cafe and the tours are really interesting! When you take the tour it shows the real class of a long family history with artefacts galore and a really amazing furniture collection!

“Sherborne (New) Castle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

Stately home located by the town of Sherborne in Dorset. It's open most of the year but closed on Mondays (except bank holidays) but my advice is double check their website before visiting.

Entrance fee is £5 is you just want the grounds or £10 if you'd like admission into the house as well. Fascinating history being Sir Walter Rayleigh's house then being in the Digby family after he was executed for treason. There are staff on hand to chat about the background of the house and there are displays of personal photographs of the Digby family throughout the years and their involvement with the local community.

The landscaped grounds are very impressive and at least an hour should be given to explore. There's a café on site as well as a shop selling the usual gifts, local produce and wine from the Digby estate.

This may not be the most spectacular stately home in England but I thought £10 was good value for money and good way to kill a few hours in a very nice part of the UK.

From a very plain rendered outside to a rich interior, rich in colour, rich in history and rich in artefacts, this is a gem of a place. Somewhat quirky layout makes it interestingly different.
