“Nice hotel, overpriced.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2009

We stayed here on our wedding night (and the following night). Having looked round one of the newly refurbished rooms (which was really impressive) i was disappointed to get one of the older style rooms. For the price it was pretty dated, especially the bathroom, and a bit tatty. It was huge though and quite impressive in a certain way with a massive 4-poster bed. The hotel was clean, the common parts are lovely and the breakfast was good. My main gripe though was the service - the staff were civil but not a single mention was made of the fact that it was our wedding despite me being very clear about that on booking. Nothing in the room and no mention on check in or check out despite it being fairly obvious - i.e. carrying a wedding dress! Was also left standing around for 15 minutes in full morning suit waiting to check in whilst the receptionist was on the phone. Nice building and grounds but extortionate prices for the older style rooms and pretty impersonal service. Average.

I travel a lot within the UK for work. The Eastbury is the only hotel I actively look forward to going back to. The staff are welcoming and helpful; the rooms are varied but all lovely. The breakfast is truly excellent. I'd thoroughly recommend a stay if you happen to be visiting the area.

We chose this venue for an 80th birthday get together. The rooms, gardens and conservatory/dining room were a perfect setting. The staff were brilliant - always extra helpfull. The food was right for a special occasion and breakfast properly done - no vegitarian options though.

Stayed 1 night in the "Yew Room". Very comfortable, well appointed.
Dinner was very good, lovely staff, good menu well presented.
Breakfast was equally good - lots of choice, hot or cold buffet or both - your call.
Easy parking, no complaints at all.
Best English hotel experience for a long time - far better than the last 3 Hotel du Vin experiences. Worth a lot more the 3 stars!

The Eastbury Hotel is within easy walking distance of the lovely market town of Sherborne in Dorset. The hotel itself is mostly built from honey coloured stone, with an imposing facade looking onto the street. The staff are welcoming and efficient, our room was luxurious and well appointed. There was a full sized bath, separate shower, ground coffee and tea as well as local biscuits and a truly comfortable bed. The hotel has a fine dining restaurant, set in a typically English country garden, and the breakfasts are both lavish and well cooked. The Eastbury offers cereals, fresh fruits, toast, croissants, local marmalade, and the traditional full English breakfast too. The staff were attentive but not intrusive, and the dinner we had their was delicious, made from local organically farmed ingredients.
The only slight moan is that broadband is an extra £5 per day, the bed had sheets rather than a quilt and you have to book a minimum of 2 nights there in Summer. Don't let this put you off though, as the hotel is a gem well worth discovering in a charming Dorset market town - enjoy!

EastburyReception, Owner at The Eastbury Hotel, responded to this review, October 24, 2009
We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit to Sherborne and The Eastbury. I wanted to let you know that in August we had Wi-Fi installed through most of the Hotel, where there isn't Wi-Fi there are wired Broadband connections available. All Broadband access is now free of charge and unlimited.
During the Summer we only insist on 2 night bookings if they include a Saturday night. 1 night bookings are available on any other night. However our Short Break Dinner Bed and Breakfast Packages are based on two nights or longer.
Quilts are available to all guests, however it is better to let us know your preference at the time of booking so the bed can be made accordingly, prior to your arrival.

Our well travelled family of 2 adults and 3 children stayed for 2 nights at Eastbury and it was a most enjoyable experience. The hotel grounds are charming and the management and staff try their best to accomodate our needs. We ate at the restaurant and find that the food was well cooked using fresh local produce. The chef and some of the restaurant staff even agreed to come to work 1/2 an hour earlier than opening hours to meet our request for an earlier dinner because our children were hungry and tired from jet lag.

The hotel is also conveniently located within walking distances to the main street (Cheap Street) and to the Sherborne castles.

In conclusion, we felt that the stay was good value for money and rate it as the best hotel you can possibly get in Sherborne if you wish to stay close to town.

My fiance and I stayed at the Eastbury as our friends' wedding was being held there. We had an executive grade room, 'Tamarix' with a lovely bathroom and large comfy bed. Nice touches like the jar of homemade cookies on the desk were appreciated. Our room looked out onto the courtyard, which was lovely and the gardens are very nice. The food was lovely as well, and we also ate at the cafe/bistro in the town which is run by the same chef. All the staff were very friendly and the locals were unbelievably nice and chatty! The hotel is also within walking distance of the train station which is brilliant, and 3 min walk from the Abbey.
