This museum is free to enter (donations accepted) and run by volunteers. There was such a lot to see and read. Although this is not Shaftesbury related, I was most surprised to see the beautiful silk flower pictures which were given away with Kensitas cigarettes. Yes really! There is also a garden - lots of different areas to wander in and plants to see.

Spread across two floors, in different rooms, this Museum gives an interesting portrayal of years gone by in the Shaftesbury area. All of the exhibits were well presented, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It even had the Hovis bike!!

We came to see Gold Hill after a few years. The hill is the same but now there is a very informative little museum. Very interesting and well worth a look inside while visiting the Hovis advert hill!

Delighted that you found us and enjoyed your visit. Actually the museum has been here since 1957 but was refurbished with a Heritage Lottery Fund grant in 2011. Thank you for taking the time to post a review and for the good rating.

We went to Gold Hill to see where the Hovis bread advert was shot and found this lovely museum at the top of the hill.

From the outside, the museum looks like tiny, but once inside, it is like a tardis! There are 2 floors of really interesting artefacts and telling the story life in Shaftesbury. We learnt lots! The museum is manned by volunteers who were smiley and welcoming. We made a donation and bought some gifts as we felt that we should contribute to such a lovely place.

I must mention...my daughter was horrified that I learned to type on a manual typewriter, she said that she didn't realise that I am so old!!!!
