We booked a deluxe room which was very large with not much furniture. All fixtures and fittings were very high spec but lacking the finishing touches. No slippers or dressing gowns which I think is odd for a boutique hotel. Also the biggest disapointment was that there was no shower cap. The shower itself was a fixed rain water shower (very nice btw) but impossible to avoid wetting your head! The service in the hotel was not the best. The bar man was miserable and not helpful in any way and the staff in the restaurant were very slow. This is a very nice comtemporary hotel, the bar area is fabulous and the restaurant serves very good food. I would recommend but feel that the staff need to step up.

We came across the Hotel Grosvenor via the Mr & Mrs Smith website. We chose it initially because of the location - it's close to Weymouth for the ferry home (Channel islands).

We arrived late Saturday & were greeted by a member of the bar team who showed us to our room, a tasteful suite with balcony, very comfortable & smart furnishings.

My only disappointment being that the advertised Ren toiletries were now replaced with Molten Brown. I happen to like Ren a lot.

That is really stretching though, in terms of issues or complaints. We loved the decor of the hotel, appreciated the lighting of both the bar, courtyard & restaurant and, above all, the staff who were friendly, helpful & relaxed. We felt immediately at ease.

Particular mention goes to Cameron, waiting staff, who took care of us on Easter Sunday at dinner. His recommendations from the menu were spot on, he was entertaining & also helped resolve our breakfast issue - leaving the hotel at 6.30am to catch a ferry meant missing breakfast. Thanks to Mark (chef) & Cameron, we were provided with sausage sandwiches for breakfast for our journey to Weymouth the next day.

Hotel Grosvenor is definitely recommended for the surroundings, comfort in contemporary furnishings & the welcoming staff.

Thank you for a wonderful & memorable stay.

Where else can you arrive with no booking reservation on a Sunday night AFTER ten p.m. and within minutes be presented with a pint, a car parking pass, room keys for a very comfortable hotel, huge smiles, luggage taken upstairs by the barman AND not even checked in? The efficient and charming Swedish assistant (Ylda I think) who happened to be working in the dining room took control, presented me with a key and told me we could do the paperwork the next day, as she trusted me and recognised me, although I had only been there once before for a business breakfast meeting a year earlier! Try that anywhere else in Europe outside the UK! Brilliant. Breakfast is out of this world - best scrambled eggs I can remember anywhere for example. One slight problem - I should have been told the hotel's parking bay number but at such a late time of evening (the reception room was unmanned) it wasnt mentioned so I gave up looking and went and parked in the municipal car park opposite with the parking pass from the hotel proudly displayed in my car. No good - I had parked in the short term instead of the long term and not noticed the problem in the dark so got a ticket the next morning! On checking out the friendly manager very kindly said if I gave him the parking ticket the hotel would happily pay it for me. Now thats service!

Stayed for the night in a junior suite and had a very chilled and relaxing stay

The suite is really spacious and superbly equipped. The tea and coffee machine is virtually instant, as opposed to old fashioned kettle and sachet. It also boasted a top quality Iphone docking station, LCD TV by the bath and excellent bedding.

The decor is really stylish and modern, and it felt more like a London boutique hotel than being in a village in Dorset

Staff were all young, trendy and helpful

Restaurant was excellent and food was lovely, if only a litlle overpriced for such small portions (Don't go there when really hungry!) It would also benefit from discreet background music, as it lacked atmosphere when so quiet..

Cocktail bar was excellent and very relaxing

Highly recommended and would love to come back again in the summer to enjoy the sun loungers on our balcony

We were working in Salisbury for one day and travelled 5 hours, therefore needed a hotel overnight. Salisbury could only offer B&B or commercial chains, therefore we looked further a field and found this absolute gem! We were able to take advantage of a very very special offer of "any room for £79.50 pppn inclusive of £25 pp towards dinner" This meant we were able to stay in the stunning and cavernous Cranbourne Suite, believe me the photographs do not do this space justice either in terms of quality or size. Will we be visiting again...absolutely!!! The rooms, bar, restaurant and service are all 1st class 5/5

We stayed for 3 nights, using Shaftsbury as a base to explore Dorset and the South Coast. It's about an hour to Studland cove / Corfe Castle and a bit longer to Abbotsbury.

The hotel is nicely situated in the middle of Shaftsbury. There are a few spaces for parking 2 minutes away, but it's not guaranteed.

The building is beautiful, elegantly decorated with some great touches - the bar for example.

We had a junior suite upgrade which was large, had an amazing bed and stand alone roll top bath. No complaints there. I notice our room faced into a private courtyard off the back of the hotel, so was lovely and quiet. I could imagine that if you stayed in a room in the front of the hotel and don't like early mornings it would be a bit noisier. All the rooms have a modern tea/coffee maker rather than sachets, which was a nice touch.

We had supper in the hotel's restaurant on the first night and found it to be excellent. My wife had their set menu of the day (3 courses for £25) and I had Duck and a Cheeseboard. All the food was of a high standard, though very rich. A few token seasonal vegetables were the only thing that could have improved things. Breakfast was similarly good.

The wine list is extensive and many things are available by the glass - we really liked this. We also sampled a few cocktails from the bar and some prosecco.

Overall very impressed, would stay again.
