“Perfect set up and location”

First stay at Greenwood Grange. Superb complex with everything done to a very high end standard. We often had the wonderful pool to ourselves and took our 5 month old for his first swim as it was so warm for him. Lots of extras included such as a brilliant DVD library, brand new travel cot, cleaning provisions in the cottage, nappy bags in the swimming pool changing rooms and the laundry facilities were better than ours at home! Would love to return and hire one of the larger cottages with a group of friends when our babies are a bit older, to take advantage of the wonderful facilites for young children. Perfect location to explore Dorset and loads to do in the sun and the rain. I agree with some other reviews that it might be helpful for a member of staff to knock after a few days of arrival to iron out any niggles in the cottage but we'd definitely return here. The bookings staff will also be flexible with arrival and leaving dates, so you don't have to book Saturday to Saturday like many places.

Room Tip: We stayed in Yalbury. Worth getting a 4 bed cottage even if you just have a little one in a travel c...

I have just come home from a week staying in the three bedroomed Flintcombe with my husband, our son and his wife, and our baby grandson.
We were delighted with the property - it was spotlessly clean, spacious and well appointed, and we enjoyed having access to the veggie patch outside our window.
It is a pretty site, well placed for access to Dorset's southern tourist attractions, and we had a most enjoyable week.
We were too busy to use the pool until the last day, but my son said he was annoyed with himself for not taking advantage of it earlier in the week, but we played billiards and table tennis and the baby enjoyed the yurt.
I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a family holiday. It wasn't cheap but we all enjoyed it very much.

Couple of small details - the carpets showed some sign of summer traffic, so an end-of-season shampoo wouldn't go amiss, and the hot water tank obviously wasn't very big because if one of us had a bath, everyone else had a cold shower.

Wireless access was distinctly iffy, and should be provided free - charging when it doesn't work very well and you are charging top rates for house hire anyway seems a bit petty...

But don't let any of these points put you off.

* Nice and unexpected touch was the chimnea in the garden...even if the weather was too good to use it.

A fantastic place, beautiful from the outside and really good facilities indeed. What really separates this from a lot of other places is the quality of the interior which is really a few levels up on any other country places we've stayed at, it really has been done to such a high standard. Also, the support that is on hand for any issues is shockingly good and way exceeds expectations, thoroughly recommended!!

We loved our stay at Greenwood Grange. We were in Yalbury which is a 2 bedroomed cottage backing onto a shared walled garden which was brilliant for our young children (3 and 5 years) to play together with the other children next door whilst we relaxed. And when they tired of playing in the garden with the badminton net and racquets, frisbee, and croquet set, they could go to the tennis courts, or the swimming pool, or the games room, or chose a DVD from the library, or visit the chickens, or the horses, or the pond, or go down to the wildflower meadow and play on the trampoline, and swings, and willow house, or go inside the yurt full of toys and games. So really there was quite a lot to keep them occupied!

The cottage itself was very nice and well equipped, and just the right size for a family of four. The wifi (£12 for a week) was very good and worked very well on all our devices (iPad and phones). One minor niggle is the lack of a hairdryer (I don't normally bring one, so was pleased I had read a previous review mentioning this).

We also appreciated the location of the cottages, as they are in a peaceful wooded valley, five minutes walk from Thomas Hardy's birthplace (NT), but they are also no more than 40 minutes drive east or west from some fantastic things to do and see in Dorset - a very central location.

We loved the steam-train to Corfe Castle, the Subtropical Gardens at Abbotsbury, and visiting Lyme Regis.

Room Tip: Terraced two bedroom cottages with shared walled garden are great if you have young sociable kids

Our cottage was cosy, but comfortable, Stourcastle. The pool is lovely, tennis courts great, and the games room much used by our boys aged 12 and 15, although disappointed that two of the pool balls were missing. The `welcome pack` leads you to believe that there is going to be something `welcoming` and exciting on arrival. In reality, its a pint of milk and a packet of biscuits! OK so there are T bags and coffee, but I suspect they are there all the time. It was a bonus not having to buy washing up liquid, or bring dish cloths and tea towels though!! I think the price is maybe a little on the high side (first week in August) but it was worth it for us to have two happy sons, and no moans about being bored (except at the tank museum!!).
All in all we enjoyed our week at Greenwood Grange.

We stayed in one of the larger cottages as an extended family group.
The positives: Well furnished inside, clean, kitchen well appointed. Sports facilities good and well maintained. Good supply of raquets etc. On site hens eggs available which was a nice touch, and really well stocked DVD library to use.
Negatives: I rang twice with queries before arriving, one took 2 days to answer, and the second time an off hand women answered the phone, and proceeded to give the wrong information regarding the facilities when we arrived!
The cottage capacity was 8, but there were only 5 outside chairs and a small table. I immediately went and pointed this out to the on site staff, who seemed suprised by the comment and i was told to use dining chairs! They did offer to bring a very delapidated pub style bench and seat combo into our garden, but that wouldn't have worked as it wouldnt have combined with the existing table. The umbrella was also broken ( I think a previous review mentioned this). Several days later 2 rickety fold up chairs were produced, then 2 days before we went a hideous cheap green metal table and chairs and a new umbrella was produced - i.e. 5 days after arriving!
Also the external area had not been cleaned on our arrival including a pot of cigarette butts. This was sorted quickly, but shows there isn't a ggod pre-let check being done.
The internal dining table was also pretty small and snug for the cottage capacity.
The wifi was extra (!!) and mostly unusable as signal continually dropped.
Many of the wider landscape areas were poorly maintained.

If we were renting a cheap basic cottage then some of this might have been expected, but at over £2000 / week you expect a better level of facilities and attitude to dealing with any short comings.

If you can get a good off season deal it would be worth it, but otherwise don't bother at peak times.

We were visiting Dorset for the Olympic sailing event & decided to make a week of it. This was our first stay at Greenwood Grange & we loved it! Excellent cottage, just right for 2 & well appointed; I loved the Shabby Chic decor! We hired bikes & got out into the countryside - good fun if a little exhausting. It's a lovely peaceful location & even though we stayed during the school holidays there is so much space we hardly noticed the children. We hope to return again someday for more peace & relaxation. Give our love to Tessa!
