A fantastic B&B, thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would have no hesitation in recommending this old period rectory house. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. Caroline is an excellent host - welcoming and friendly, and a great source of local knowledge. We stayed in the The Abbotsbury room which was spotless and the bathroom is out of this world (this is the bathroom shown on the website). The breakfast was excellent too, and we thoroughly enjoyed the full English breakfast which Gordan cooked. We will definitely go back.

Fantastic old period rectory house in the hart of a small village (Winterbourne Steepleton, 4 miles from Dorchester) The bedroom we stayed in, ( Sherborne) was first class, complete with a remote controlled venetian blind !? decent sized TV and spotless clean bathroom. The breakfast was well cooked and served in the conservatory. This B&B would make a good base for touring the local area our host Caroline was very informative of place we could visit and local walks.

We came across The Old Rectory by chance (looking for a B & B on the internet) and have been lucky enough to have two stays there. The most recent was for a birthday and Caroline was very helpful in making it a special occasion for us. Other members of the family came with us, and also were full of praise for the welcome, and the comfort of their rooms. Caroline is an excellent host - welcoming and friendly, and a great source of local knowledge and advice about places to see which are off the beaten track.
Each of the rooms we have stayed in was comfortable and well equippped, and very clean, - but the Dorchester does stand out for comfort, as other reviewers have mentioned.
There is a goods choice for breakfast and the hot food is freshly cooked.

Room Tip: The Dorchester is the largest of the four rooms, and looks out over the garden at the side of the ho...

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. I'm not sure whether to mention it, as you might all want one, but as a nice surprise, we were upgraded to a lovely room with a four poster bed. The room was really well furnished with comfy chairs and a good tv, a lovely bathroom and a really nice view of the garden. The bed was very comfortable and it was almost a shame we had to get up. But when we did get downstairs, Caroline was busy in the kitchen preparing a lovely breakfast.
Does this all sound a bit gushing? Well it's hard not to be full of enthusiasm for the place - Caroline is - and it shows with her perfect hosting skills.
I really cannot recommend the Old Rectory highly enough.
When we stayed, there was a fair bit of building going on as they were upgrading the old schoolhouse next the the rectory - I don't know how long this will take but it will not spoil your stay I am sure

We have been staying at The Old Rectory regularly now for about two or three years and can't praise it enough. Caroline and Gordan are wonderful hosts and always make us feel so welcome and look after us so well The Old Rectory is beautiful, with lovely rooms (we have stayed in them all!) all well appointed - our favourite has to be the four poster bed it is so soft and comfortable with a fabulous bathroom to match. Caroline is very knowledgable about the area and there is lots to see and do - we never tire of it and will be back again soon.

So..... you know when you're finally on your holiday or mini-break, and on the road to your selected B&B, and you're wondering things like:-

'Did I make the right choice?'
'Will it be as nice as it looks on the website?'
'What about the location?'
'I hope the hosts look after us well'

....etc, etc. Well, with The Old Rectory, please cast all such doubts to one side.

You will not be disappointed, and trust me on this: you really mustn't worry. All will be well and you will be happy you made the right choice. ~ For, as soon as we pulled-up to The Old Rectory, we knew everything would be just fine.

First off, the B&B is situated in delightful little village called Winterbourne Steepleton, in the heart of the wonderful Dorset countryside.

Secondly, as your car crumples on gravel into its parking space, you get a sense of calm, peaceful relaxation, with beautiful gardens to one side of the main house, birds singing, including jackdaws chattering away, and a delightful assortment of old buildings and former coach-house forming a kind of courtyard to the other. In short, a perfect setting for some much needed R&R.

We were then greeted by Caroline, who was a wonderful, charming and excellent host throughout; very welcoming and friendly, with nothing too much bother, providing us with good information of the surrounding area on request.

As for our room, we were lucky enough to be staying in Dorchester, which was a lovely, light and generously spacious room, with a fabulous and huge four-poster bed (very comfortable, slept like a log) with a good sized ensuite bathroom. The room also enjoys excellent views out across the garden. So yep, all very lovely.

The breakfasts were excellent too, with plenty of choices for cereal, fruit, juices and so on, and a thoroughly enjoyable full English breakfast (which I had on both days) which set you up nicely for the day. Lots of tea too of course!

So, all-in-all, a fantastic B&B, thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would have no hesitation in recommending it. So, as per the top, cast away any doubts or pauses for thought, and hit the <book> button with happy abandon.

If our experience was anything to go by, you will be perfectly looked after and enjoy it every bit as much as ourselves.
