“Fantastic Curry”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

Went in for the monday night curry buffet as recommended by a friend and had a really good time, choice of curries was very good and really nice and they even had peroni itallian beer on draught, the staff were really polite and friendly to my family and made us feel at home.
Would highly recommend it and will certainly go back again......

“Excellent food”
Reviewed September 17, 2012 via mobile

We came to Tolpuddle to visit the Martyrs's museum. This pub was a pleasant surprise. The staff were welcoming and although it was busy we were very well looked after. The complimentary salad was lovely and such a nice idea. We had the pork belly and the roast lamb and these were possibly the best roast dinners we have had when eating out. The wine selection is great. Very animal and family friendly pub with great atmosphere.

“change of ownership has let this place down”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

This was a very dissapoointing lunchtime meal with an old friend as food quality was poor. A very sharp salad of nuts and spikey lettuce was served in a bowl and unkowlingly charged for while the starters were being prepared.
The starter of croquettes potatoes were not up to a standard for the value and the main course was little and uninspiring. We were asked twice if we required anything else and this was the last that we saw of any staff member. After a while we asked for the dessert menu to be told the kitchen was shut and nothing else was being served. WE had not been advised of this prior to us asking for the menu again. It was a struggle to then request a coffee which did appear but this was all too much trouble. we paid a hefty price, then left. In the past we have always received excellent serbice and a menu to match but not this time. Cold and frosty was the reception from the staff, and our custom clearly not required. A very bitter taste and a very off hand approach to any form of customer service or food quality.

Thank you for your review of The Martyrs Inn, we were disappointed to read that you had an unenjoyable time with us.

With regard to your review, I would like to comment that The Martyrs Inn, has not changed ownership or management, and under no circumstances were you charged for the complimentary salad bowl made with locally sourced Dorset leaves (and no nuts). Confusingly our kitchen was open all day.

It is unfortunate that you had not mentioned your dissatisfaction during your mentioned interactions with the staff as we would have easily resolved any issue.

“Good food but oddly unenjoyable experience”
Reviewed June 9, 2012

We had dinner on a Friday night and had exemplary cooking - wonderful carrot soup and salad and a superb duck breast. However, the pub is a single room with hard surfaces for walls, ceilings, floors and seating and the noise was indescribable as it bounced off every surface. The pub was full with several large groups and everyone having to raise their voice higher to hear over the next table. Despite large tables and apparent space, there was a feeling of being squashed (partly because the chairs and table heights were too close, meaning you couldn't get your chair under the table as you sat on it). Service was friendly and helpful but somehow conveyed feeling overly busy / harrassed. It's a shame that these points detracted substantially from very good cooking.

A friendly welcome greeted us and a drinks order quickly followed. We decided to order some food and after some deliberation, a child's cheeseburger, the Scampi, with new potatoes and salad, and a gammon with egg and chips. After about half and hour the food turned up, unfortunately the potatoes had been delivered as chips and these chips were all quite disappointing, dry and tasteless. The child's burger was rare, not a problem with him but some may think so.

The gammon was delicious though.
Child's dinner included a bowl of ice cream an was in all good value.

End the end of the day it was all "ok"
